Language in Song Lyrics in The Lion King Movie. Thesis: English
Department, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Sebelas Maret University,
Surakarta. 2015.
This research focuses on the analysis of translation techniques applied in
translating the figurative language in song lyrics in The Lion King movie and the
translation quality in terms of accuracy and acceptability.
This research is descriptive qualitative study. The purposes of the research
are (1) to describe the techniques used by the translator in translating the
figurative language in song lyrics in The Lion King movie subtitle into
Indonesian, and (2) to find out the quality of the translation in terms of accuracy
and acceptability.
The research employed purposive sampling technique. The data were the
figurative language in song lyrics in The Lion King movie. The other data were
information obtained from the questionnaire distributed to three raters. The total
data of the figurative language in song lyric from the movie were 82 data.
The analysis on the translation techniques shows that there are three
techniques applied in translating the figurative language in song lyrics in The Lion
King movie. They are removal of figurative texture (10 data or 12%), alteration of
figurative texture (4 data or 4.8%), and identify in figurative texture (68 data or
82%).
The analysis on the translation accuracy shows that from 82 data, 71 data
(86.6%) are accurate, 11 data (13.4%) less accurate, and no datum is inaccurate.
In terms of acceptability, 76 data (92.7%) are acceptable, 6 data (7.3%) are less
acceptable, and no datum is unacceptable.
The findings show that the technique resulting translation with high degree
of accuracy is identify in figurative texture, while the one resulting less accurate
translation is alteration of figurative texture. The technique resulting translation
