Abstract
This study contends that, not only male domination which is representing the
patriarchal hegemony appeared in the “Mulan” film but the patriarchal society also became
popular culture in the film. To help redress this, the study explores, from many researchers’
point of views and theories as well as the writer’s and then, connected with the film. Though
this study only brought a simple analysis toward male domination as a popular culture, it is
hoped that it will contribute to an understanding of the many and varied patriarchal
hegemony happened in the society, as well as helping to acquire a popular culture values
existed in the film. Male domination is acknowledged as a popular culture in Chinese society
showed in the “Mulan” film.
