  Key words: Vocabulary Mastery, “Word Link” Activity.

  In learning language, vocabulary has an important role. Vocabulary is one of the language components that should be mastered by students in learning new language. It is imposs ible to them to learn new language if they don’t know about the learning vocabulary. If the students are lack of vocabulary they will have difficulties in learning English. In fact shown that the fifth grade students less active in english lesson, the have limited vocabulary, the students have difficulties to memorize the words. During teaching learning process the students get bored and not interested in studying English. Therefore, the writer proposes “Word Link” Activity in teaching English Vocabulary to solve the students’ problem.

  The objective of this research are(1) to find outwhether “Word Link” activity can improve the vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SDN 4

  Kancilan Kembang Jepara in academic year 2015/2016, (2) to describe the activities of the students and the teacher of the fifth grade of SDN 4 Kancilan Kembang Jepara in academic year 2015/2016 to “Word Link” activity in teaching vocabulary mastery and (3) to describe the response of the fifth grade students of SDN 4 Kancilan Kembang Jepara in academic year 2015/2016 to

  “Word Link” activity in teaching vocabulary mastery. This research belongs to classroom action research. This research is conducted in SDN 4 Kancilan Kembang Jepara,while the subject is the students of of the fifth grade students of SDN 4 Kancilan Kembang Jeparathat consist of 28 students, 13 male and 15 female. This research is done in 2 cycles. There are two meetings in each cycle which consist of four stages, those are: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. In this research, there are three instruments that are used by the writer to collect the data. They are test, observation and questionnaire.

  Based on the finding of this research, the students’ average score is improved from 63.03 in cycle 1 then it is changed into percentage to be 63.03 % to 80.35 in cycle 2 that is changed into percentage to be 80.35 %. From the data above, the category of the average score of the students

  ’ vocabulary mastery in cycle 1 is sufficient , while the category of the average score of the students’ vocabulary masteryin cycle 2 is good. So, there is an increasing of the average score percentage of the students’ vocabulary mastery from the first cycle to the second cycle. Therefore, there is the improvement of the students’ vocabulary mastery in teaching English by using “Word Link” Activity. From the facts above, the writer give suggestions to the English teacher to apply “Word Link” Activityin teaching and learning process to solve the students’ problem. So the teacher can apply

  “Word Link” Activityin the teaching and learning process as the technique of teaching to impro ve the students’ vocabulary mastery.

  Dalam pembelajaran bahasa, kosakata memiliki peran penting. Kosakata merupakan salah satu komponen bahasa yang harus dikuasai oleh siswa dalam mempelajari bahasa baru. Tidak mungkin bagi mereka untuk belajar bahasa baru jika mereka tidak tahu tentang kosakata. Jika siswa kurang menguasai kosakata mereka akan mengalami kesulitan dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Fakta menunjukkan bahwa siswa kelas lima kurang aktif dalam pelajaran bahasa Inggris, mempunyai kosakata terbatas, para siswa mengalami kesulitan untuk menghafal kata-kata. Selama proses belajar mengajar siswa bosan dan tidak tertarik dalam mempelajari bahasa Inggris. Oleh karena itu, penulis mengusulkan Kegiatan "Word Link" dalam mengajar Kosakata bahasa Inggris untuk mengatasi masalah para siswa tersebut.

  Tujuandaripenelitianiniadalah(1) untuk mengetahui apakah kegiatan "Word Link" dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas V SDN 4 Kancilan Kembang Jepara di tahun ajaran 2015/2016, (2) untuk mendeskripsikan kegiatan siswa dan guru kelas V SDN 4 Kancilan Kembang Jepara di tahun ajaran 2015/2016 untuk kegiatan "Word Link" dalam pengajaran kosakata penguasaan dan (3) untuk menggambarkan respon dari siswa kelas V SDN 4 Kancilan Kembang Jepara di tahun akademik 2015/2016 untuk kegiatan "Word Link" dalam mengajar penguasaan kosakata.

  Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SDN 4 Kancilan Kembang Jepara, sedangkan subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas V SDN 4 Kancilan Kembang Jepara yang terdiri dari 28 siswa, 13 laki- laki dan 15 perempuan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam 2 siklus. Ada dua pertemuan di setiap siklus yang terdiri dari empat tahap, yaitu: perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan analisis. Dalam penelitian ini, ada tiga instrumen yang digunakan oleh penulis untuk mengumpulkan data. Mereka adalah tes, observasi dan kuesioner.

  Berdasarkan temuan penelitian ini, nilai rata-rata siswa meningkat dari 63,03 pada siklus 1 yang kemudian diubah menjadi persentase menjadi 63,03% sedangkan untuk 80,35 pada siklus 2 yang diubah menjadi persentase menjadi 80,35%. Dari data di atas, kategori skor rata-rata siswa penguasaan kosakata dalam siklus 1 adalah cukup, sedangkan kategori skor rata-rata siswa penguasaan kosakata dalam siklus 2 adalah baik. Jadi, ada peningkatan dari persentase skor rata-rata penguasaan kosakata siswa dari siklus I ke siklus II. Oleh karena itu, ada peningkatan penguasaan kosakata siswa dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan Kegiatan “Word Link”.

  Berdasarkan fakta di atas, penulis memberikan saran kepada guru Bahasa Inggris untuk menerapkan Kegiatan “Word Link” dalam proses belajar mengajar untuk memecahkan masalah siswa. Jadi guru dapat menerapkan Kegiatan “Word Link” dalam proses belajar mengajar sebagai teknik pengajaran untuk meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa.
