Comprehensive and adequate molecular epidemiology database of infectious
agents is important for infectious prevention and therapy programs. However, for
the best of our knowledge, such kind of adequate database is not available in
Indonesia, including that of the human blood borne viruses. To solve the problems,
our group in Sebelas Maret University (Blood Borne Virus Research Group collecting
epidemiological and clinical data and blood specimens from the high risk
communities for human blood borne viruses infections to build a molecular
epidemiology database of human blood borne viruses in Indonesia focusing on HIV
(Human Immunodeficiency Virus), HBV (Hepatitis B Virus), HCV (Hepatitis C Virus),
HDV (Hepatitis D Virus), HTLV-1/2 (Human T-cell leukemia virus-1 / 2), and TTV
(Torque Teno Virus). And since October 2011 we start monitoring and collecting the
epidemiological-clinical data and clinical specimens from all HIV patients in Dr.
Moewardi General Hospital Surakarta (n= + 200 every year). Not only building the
molecular epidemiology database, but our group also performing cloning and
molecular characterization of the local blood borne pathogens.
