Abstract

  This research aims to investigate the influence of rockwool reinforcement and fiberglass

  

reinforcement on mechanical properties and tribological properties of composite brake

material. Composite was manufactured by using a hot press with temperatures of 160ºC.

  Brake lining composites are tested with bending and wear testing in accordance with ASTM D790 and G99. Coefficient of friction testing is conducted with two variation. The first test is conducted with the sliding speed are 3m/s, 6m/s, 9m/s, and 12m/s with a constant contact pressure of 1 mpa. The second test is conducted with the contact pressure are 0.25 MPa, 0.5 MPa, 0.75 MPa, and 1 MPa with a constant sliding speed of 12 m/s. As the results, coefficient of friction, specific wear rate, and flexural strength increase along with the increase of rockwool content in composite brake material. However, the coefficient of friction, specific wear rate, and flexural strength decrease with the enhancement of fiberglass content in composite brake materials.

Abstrak

  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan reinforcement rockwool dan reinforcement fiberglass terhadap sifat mekanik dan sifat tribologi. Pembuatan komposit dilakukan dengan menggunakan alat hot press dengan temperatur 160ºC. Komposit kampas rem diuji dengan pengujian bending dan pengujian keausan sesuai dengan ASTM D790 dan G99. Pengujian koefisien gesek dilakukan dengan dua variasi. Variasi yang pertama adalah variasi kecepatan yang terdiri dari 3m/s, 6 m/s, 9 m/s, 12 m/s dengan tekanan konstan sebesar 1 MPa. Variasi yang kedua adalah variasi tekanan yang terdiri dari 0.25 MPa, 0.5 MPa dan 0.75 MPa, dan 1 MPa dengan kecepatan konstan sebesar 12 m/s. Dari hasil penelitian tersebut diperoleh bahwa nilai koefisien gesek, keausan spesifik, dan kekuatan lentur semakin meningkat seiring dengan bertambahnya kandungan rockwool pada bahan rem komposit. Namun, nilai koefisien gesek, keausan spesifik, dan kekuatan lentur semakin menurun seiring dengan bertambahnya kandungan fiberglass pada bahan rem komposit.
