However, this book is the most useful I have encountered to-date because the focus is on helping the reader understand, piece by piece, how APEX applications are constructed by the APEX engine—and the importance of developing fluency in customizing APEX “properties” as a way to effectively develop original solutions that are both functional and attractive. This book is easy to follow, less on frills, and costs significantly less than its counterparts. That’s pleasantly surprising, knowing that the author is an established expert in database technologies. I’m looking forward to the next edition of this book (due September 2015), which would be based on Oracle APEX 5, released in April 2015.

This book is well written and easy to follow. I can't tell you if you have never had programming experience this will be the book that teaches you how to code for the first time as for I have mad experience. Though I will tell you this book will teach you beginning Apex 4.2.
