Descriptive Text by Using Romantic Material (A Classroom Action Research in
the Eighth Grade of SMP N 1 Jaten in the Academic year 2016/2017).Teacher
Training and Education Faculty, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta 2018.The objective of the study is to investigate whether or not the use of Romantic Material can improve the students’ writing skill; and to describe the class situation when Romantic Material was implemented in teaching writing to the eighth grade students.
In the research, the researcher uses a classroom action research. The media which is used is Romantic Material. The procedure of the research consists of identifying the problems, planning the action, implementing the action, observing the action, reflecting the action, and revising plan. The research is conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of three meetings. In collecting the data, the researcher uses qualitative and quantitative method. The qualitative data is collected from observation, field note, and photograph. The quantitative data is collected from the questionnaire and tests.
Improving the Students’ Skill in Writing is influenced by many indicators of writing. There are many indicators based on many theories, 1)Content, 2)Organization, 3)Grammar, 4)Vocabulary, and 5)Mechanics.
The result of the research shows Romantic Material improves the students’ skill in writing descriptive text. It can be seen from each indicators improved. In the class situation, the students are more active during teaching learning process.
It also influences the students’ achievement. The mean score before the research was 62.70 and after the research became 80.84. The improvement of students score was 18.14 point. At the end of the research, the research gives suggestions.
The first one, Romantic Material can be alternative media in learning English. The second, the teacher should manage the class situation which support the leaning process.
