  b. Support Laboratory:  Laboratory for Control System & Robotic  Laboratory for Energy Efficiency and Conservation  Laboratory for Engineering Design & Tribology  Laboratory for Production Process and CNC

Laboratory for Production Process and CNC is involved in research and development of advanced design techniques in order to support the verification of products and processes in terms of feasibility, functionality, ergonomics and reliability. The aim of the laboratory is to learn about key manufacturing processes and the efficiency and limitations of machines. Students put the theory they have learnt into practice by carrying out a range of laboratory projects in which they solve production problems and create CNC programs under supervision in small groups. Their solutions are then tested and explained using machine tools.

Laboratory coordinator: Dr. Susilo Adi Widyanto, ST, MT

   Laboratory for Engineering Material

The main work of this lab is to allow students to creatively and systematically explore engineering materials in a hands-on environment. Students participate in all aspects of the work, including preparation of the test specimens, testing, recording data, and interpretation of the results. The testing procedures are based on the ASTM standards. Students learn how to measure and modify material properties, and perform activities to clarify important concepts. Typically, topics covered are directly relevant to manufacturing processes or product design.

Laboratory coordinator: Yusuf Umardani, ST, MT

   Laboratory for Thermofluid

Laboratory thermofluid is used to run experiments in both fluid mechanics and heat transfer. Students will do a group project involving the design of an experiment, its instrumentation, method of test, data analysis and final report presentation. Special emphasis is placed on report preparation and computer aided data reduction. Research at the Laboratory for Thermofluids is aimed at improving knowledge in advanced fields of strategic technologies with emphasis on principles of transport phenomena. The final goal is to bring together multidisciplinary knowledge to develop new procedures and technologies, as well as to carry out research to gain the fundamental knowledge needed to solve new problems.

   Laboratory for Computation

Laboratory for Computation is to advance the frontiers of learning theory and machine learning, while building algorithmic tools for the analysis of complex systems and high dimensional data. The approach blends well established concepts and methods from computer science, statistics and signal processing with modern results in (high dimensional) probability, into new computational tools for statistical inference. The goal is to channel theory and algorithms into new applications including smarter technologies and sophisticated engines for inference from high-dimensional data/signals. The ultimate objective of the lab is a future generation of intelligent technologies.

10. Student Achievement

The Mechanical Engineering Department is one of popular majors among all Engineering Department in Diponegoro University. Mechanical Engineering students learn several engineering fields such as contruction, energy, materials, mechatronics and manufacturing. In order to increase the competency of students, Mechanical Engineering students participate and contribute in both International and National competition. Some of them are to be the winner. The following are the selected Competition during 2015 to 2016.

a. Shell Eco-marathon Competition

Shell Eco-marathon competition is a competition that related to fuel energy consumption of vehicle sponsored by Shell Company. In order to participate in this competition, the participant (the University team) must obey the regulation competition including the type of fuel, design, dimension of vehicle, electricity, and weight of vehicle body. The team is need to design and manufacture one vehicle according to the criteria mentioned above. The vehicle must complete the race (pass the finish line) in order to be considered as winners. The first rank winner is the vehicle with the lowest fuel consumption and longest distance in kilometers during the competition. This competition has held annually in the following countries Finland, France, Germany, Netherland, Japan, USA, Malaysia and Phillipine. Mechanical Engineering students has participated in 2015 which is held in Phillipine. The student complete the race in the fifth rank among 30 teams. The vehicle of Mechanical Engineering student which partipacte in Shell Eco- marathon Phillipne is namely “Antawirya”.
