Preface
This volume was selected from papers presented at the 3rd International Conference on
Sustainable Technology Development (ICSTD Bali 2014), which have been held in Udayana
University Bali during October 30-31, 2014. The conference was organized by Faculty of Engineering,
University of Udayana Bali Indonesia. This conference covered wide range of engineering issues
toward the achievement of sustainablility.
In order to meet high standard of Applied Mechanics and Materials, the organization committee
has made their efforts to do the following things. Firstly, all submitted papers have been reviewed by 2
anonymous expert reviewers, poor quality papers have been rejected after reviewing. Secondly,
periodically review meetings have been held around the reviewers about three times for exchanging

reviewing suggestions. Finally, the conference organization had several preliminary sessions before the
conference. Through efforts of the scientific committee and Editors team, the volume will be the best
collected papers.
We would like to thank the Faculty of Engineering, University of Udayana, the member of
organizing and scientific committees, and also to TTP publisher.

Abstract.
Bali is a small and unique island, which stores various indigenous wealth and culture. One of the
customs and cultural heritage is the presence of the holy places of Hindu temple that is lying
scattered all over the island of Bali as a worship place of God. Known as Thousand Temples
Islands, Bali island has many sacred places are grouped into General temple, Territorial temple,
Functional temple and Kawitan temple based on the character and nature[1]. Hindu tradition known
as Tirtayatra done by praying to the temples. Aside from being a holy place, the temple is also a
tourist attraction for visitors in Bali. Large numbers, spread location lead to difficulty in the location
searching and each temple can be composed of several buildings give problems in data collection
and maintenance of information. A geographically-based system is needed to solve these problems.
By using Google Maps and web programming technologies, this system will be able to help the
hindus and other visitors to determine their location and the location of the temple. In addition, this
system can also be accessed anywhere with an internet connection.
1. Introduction
Pura or temple is a term for a place of worship of Hinduism in Indonesia. Temple in Indonesia
mainly concentrated in Bali as the island with the majority of the Hindus population. Unlike a
temple or a Hindu temple in India in the form of a closed building, the balinese hindu temple is
designed as a place of worship in the open space which consists of several walled environment.
Each environment is associated with a gate or a gate full of beautifully carved. This walled
environment contains several buildings such as shrines that sacred place. Bali has many temples
sacred places that can be visited, other than as a place of worship, the temple was also used as a
tourist attraction.
2. Methodology
This section, will explain about the methodology used in research of Design and
Implementation of Web-based Geographic Information Systems on Mapping Hindu’s temple using
Google Maps.
Collaborative GIS
The development of GIS dates back to 60’s, with the apparition of GIS as computational tools
for capturing, managing and transforming data of spatial references to be used in planning and
decision-taking processes. Other work that followed after these, was trying to provide a support for
the integration between groups of people and for the decision-taking based on geo-referential data,
studying also the impact of them on its users. The development of these systems continued and took
advantages of the Internet era, in which the Web maps have a fundamental situation. [2]

Definition of Google Maps
Google Maps is an application made by Google group. Google Maps associated with digital
maps. Digital maps displayed by Google Map are various such as map and satellite. Currently, the
number of users of Google Maps is growing rapidly because the information provided by Google
Maps is very complete. In addition, when there is changing of data in a location, Google Maps will
quickly make corrections and update data.
Google Maps can be accessed using a stable Internet connection. The user interface of Google
Maps is also very user friendly. So, for those who are new in using Google Maps surely will be
interested in this digital map system.
Therefore, no wonder if many people in the world use Google Maps to locate and specify a
location. [3]
Definition of Google Maps API
So many features that could be developed by the Google Maps that make the Google Maps is
growing very rapidly. Based on these ideas, the founder of Google Maps was made an API
(Application Programming Interface) for Google Maps which later was named Google Maps API.
Google Maps API is very useful in the creation of a geographic information system because it
does not need to make a digital map for these systems since the digital maps that will be used is
provided by Google that can save time and effort. Thus, we can focus on the data and information
that will be displayed by the geographic information system. The understanding of the Google
Maps API requires a basic knowledge of HTML and javascript. [4]
Using Google Map to work on a geographic information system provides several benefits
including the following :
1. Simplify storage system map.
2. Can be accessed anywhere with an internet connection.
3. No need to create a new map.
4. Change of map data faster.
5. The system is going to be lighter.
System Overview
The overview diagram of this research is shown in Fig 1. This system has three types of user,
admin user, collaborator user and public user (i.e. mobile and computer user). Three types of users
have different access rights depending on the user level. Admin or collaborator user has the right to
access more than public user.
The temple information can be added by admin or collaborator user. Then the system will bring
up the map information from Google Maps, and the temple information will appears as a digital
map. For example, if the users want to search for information based on the category it just need to
select temple category. When the category has been selected the next step is to find more
information or the location of the selected temple. Temple locations in map can display the desired
information as a guide to these location.

This system not only has advantage on the selection of category, but also has other advantages,
as the map can become digital maps and normal maps (street maps). The following is an explain of
the process that occurs in the geographic information system on mapping hindu’s temple using a
web-based google maps and illustrated by the context diagram described in Fig. 2.

In Fig. 3 explains about the business processes that occur in the system. Business process is
demonstrated through entities called data flow diagrams. Entities on data flow diagram level 0
are login, view object, create object, and management master data.

In Fig. 4. shows tables of geographic information system on mapping hindu’s temple using a
web-based google maps. The system consist of 20 tables :
1. tb_pura used to store general information of temple
2. tb_pura_elemen used to store about the information building in a temple
3. tb_pura_pemangku used to store the information of the priest relate to the temple
4. tb_pengempon used to store the organization management related to the temple
5. tb_history_odalan used to store the ceremonies event related to the temple
6. tb_odalan_sasih used to store the information about the day of ceremony related to the
temple depend on balinese sasih calender.
7. tb_odalan_wuku used to store store the information about the day of ceremony related to the
temple depend on balinese wuku calender.
8. tb_odalan_jenis used to store master category of ceremony
9. tb_karakterisasi used to store master category of hindu’s temple
10. tb_sasih used to store master data sasih in balinese calender
11. tb_wuku used to store master data wuku in balinese calender
12. tb_pancawara used to store master data pancawara in balinese calender
13. tb_saptawara used to store master data saptawara in balinese day

3. Experiments and Results
Once the system design is completed, the next will be the trial process. This step holds an
important role in programming. It lets the programmer do trial and error before it is launched
officially for the viewers.

In Fig 5 shows the homepage, there are several components of the display page for the general
user. At the top right there is a menu Master Data used to go to the page of the tabular information
management and building irrigation networks. Menu associated with the user profile. On the map
there is a box of tools that can be used to manipulate spatial data on a map.

Fig 6 shows the main page or a map of the system, users can view information, add and
manipulate object data. To be able to add an object temple, admin or a collaborator user must
determine the position of the temple on the map. By clicking on the desired position of the map will
display a new window that is used to add temple data objects and information.
Many features in this system has benefit includes in mapping the number of temples were lying
scattered in Bali, storing details of a temple, facilitate the search for the location of a temple, and
give directions to get to a temple. In general, this system also helps in maintaining the preservation
of Balinese culture
4. Conclusions
The result on this paper is a design data flow diagrams and tables. Data flow diagrams and tables
have a strong relationship. Data flow diagrams and tables can be used as a basis and foundation to
create a geographic information system. The system will be created is a geographic information
system on mapping hindu’s temple using a web-based google maps. The system capable of
handling large amounts of temple’s data and can be accessed anywhere in real-time by using an
Internet connection.
