ABSTRACT
This poster proposes a new research progress and presents a current analysis of the critical success factors (CSFs) to improve CSF framework for information communication technology
(ICT) project in Indonesian higher education institutions (HEIs). A linier relationship between project dimensions and project success dimensions is developed within a coherent concept
to form a new CSFs framework for ICT project environment. In this development, CSFs is recognized through a combination method which it combined top-down approach and bottomup approach. This study tries to explore and to understand the possible interactions between four project dimensions (systematic dimension, managerial dimension, directional
dimension, and environmental dimension) and four project success dimensions (project efficiency, project effectiveness, fulfilment of functional requirements, and stakeholder’s
satisfaction). The ultimate aim of the study is to help ICT project managers to deal with the complexity of project dimensions particularly for determining CSFs which influence the
shaping of project success. The success of the ICT projects is one of challenges for the future, if success factors of ICT project for the HEIs in Indonesian can be identified and
understood; those factors will have provided benefits to both researchers and practitioners. Hence, the findings might give contributions theoretically and practically.
Keywords: CSFs, ICT project, HEIs, and Indonesia.
OBJECTIVES

RESEARCH PROBLEM

1.
2.

The level of ICT project performance is still low in practical world;
The ICT project development challenges among HEIs appropriate to the used of ICT for
higher education world in Indonesia;

Specifically, in the ICT project performance studies:
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

The project success definition disagreements among scholars in the ICT project
management studies;
The research context differences between the developed countries and the developing
ones in around the ICT project performance studies;
The used different project dimensions in the ICT project performance studies;
The applied different project criteria in the ICT project performance studies;

The used CSFs determination method in the ICT project performance studies.

THE PROPOSED RESEARCH DESIGN

1.
2.
3.

To explore ICT project approaches which used by HEIs in Indonesia
as long as they have been
perform their ICT projects;
To understand the determination of ICT project approach based on
ICT project dimensions;
To examine the relationship between systematical context,
managerial context, directional context,
environmental context, ICT project approaches and ICT project success.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS
1.
2.

3.
4.
5.

How to understand the relationship between project dimensions and ICT project success dimensions?
What is relationship between systematic dimension and ICT project success?
What is relationship between managerial dimension and ICT project success?
What is relationship between directional dimension and ICT project success?
What is relationship between environmental dimension and ICT project success?

INITIAL PROGRESSES
Based on the literature study stage, researcher tried:
1. to developed a coherent framework for
understanding CSFs of ICT project environment
(figure 2);
2. To developed a combination method for
determining CSFs of ICT project environment
(figure 3);
3. To developed a detail research model (figure 4).
