ABSTRAK

Skripsi yang berjudul “ THE ABILITY OF GRADE IX “ BIMBEL MEDICA”
LEARNERS IN MASTERING ENGLISH ELLIPTICAL CONSTRUCTION ”
merupakan suatu analisis tentang kemampuan siswa kelas IX dalam memahami
Elliptical Construction dalam tata bahasa Inggeris. Siswa tahun IX tersebut adalah
siswa dari beberapa sekolah yang ada di kota Medan yang mengikuti bimbingan
belajar di Bimbel Medica yang beralamat di jln. Iskandar Muda No. 19A Medan.
Dalam mengerjakan skripsi ini peneliti menggunakan metode field research (
penelitian lapangan ) yaitu mengambil data dari siswa tahun IX yang mengikuti
bimbingan belajar di Bimbel Medica Jln. Iskandar Muda Medan. Cara yang peneliti
gunakan untuk mendapat data dari mereka dengan memberikan soal yang terdiri dari
30 pertanyaan untuk 30 siswa. Soal tersebut dibagi ke dalam tiga bagian jenis – jenis
Elliptical Construction; Positive Elliptical, Negative Elliptical, and Opposite
Elliptical. Soal tersebut diselesaikan dalam waktu satu jam. Setelah melakukan
analisis data, peneliti dapat menyimpulkan bahwa tata bahasa Elliptical Construction

telah dipahami dengan baik oleh siwa kelas IX SMP tersebut. Hasil dari analisis
penelitian tingkat kemampuan kelas IX Bimbel Medica dalam memahami Elliptical
Construction adalah Baik, rata – rata tingkat kemampuan mereka adalah 78 %.
Kata-kata kunci: kemampuan, elliptical construction, tes bahasa.

ABSTRACT
The thesis entitled “ THE ABILITY OF GRADE IX “BIMBEL MEDICA”
LEARNERS IN MASTERING ENGLISH ELLIPTICAL CONSTRUCTION ”
is a thesis that analyzed the ability of grade IX learners in mastering English
Elliptical Construction. Those grade IX learners are the learners from some schools
in Medan who study in Bimbel Medica at Jln. Iskandar Muda No.19A Medan. The
way of researcher to get the data from the learners, giving them the test that consisted
on 30 questions for 30 learners. The test devided into three kinds of Elliptical
Construction; Positive Elliptical, Negative Elliptical, and Opposite Elliptical. The
test finished in one hour. After doing the analysis, researcher can conclude that
Elliptical Construction have been understood by the grade IX learners well. The
Result of analysis the ability of grade IX Bimbel Medica in mastering Enlish
Elliptical Construction is Good, the average of the ability is 78%.
