ABSTRACT
The title of this paper is ―A Brief Study of Passive Voice Used by F. Scott
Fitzgerald‘s Novel The Great Gatsby‖. It is about the use of passive voice in
sentences found in the novel. The purpose of writing this paper is to know the details
about the precentage of passive voice used in this novel, how many sentences can be
found in this novel, how many kind of sentences used in the novel, and to determine
how many kind of tenses that used in the novel. Thus, data shows that there are 1218

sentences in 4 even chapters used by the author to write the novel and 59 passive
voice found in the novel.

ABSTRAK
Kertas karya ini berjudul ―The Description of Passive Voice Used by F. Scott
Fitzgerald in His Novel The Great Gatsby‖. Ini membahas tentang penggunaan
kalimat pasif di dalam kalimat yang terdapat pada novel F. Scott Fitzgerald yang
berjudul The Great Gatsby. Tujuan dari penulisan kertas karya ini adalah untuk
mengetahui secara terperinci tentang distribusi kalimat pasif yang banyak digunakan
pada novel tersebut, berapa banyak kalimat yang ditemukan pada novel tersebut, serta
jenis kalimatnya, dan untuk menentukan jenis-jenis tenses yang digunakan setiap
kalimat pasif pada novel tersebut. Data menunjukkan bahwa ada 1218 kalimat dari 4
bab genap yang digunakan penulis untuk menulis novel ini dan 59 kalimat pasif
ditemukan pada novel tersebut.
