  The Interest and Motivation in Learning English Between the Students of SMK and Those of SMA (A Survey Study at SMK N Binangun and SMA N Sampang in Academic Year 2016/2017) Lara Budining Tyas Palupi 1301050080 ABSTRACT

  The aim of this research were 1) To find out the level of the students’ interest and motivation in learning English between the students of TKR and Science departments, 2) To find out the difference of the students’ interest and motivation between SMK and SMA students. This research was carried out in March to July, 2017. The method to construct this study was survey in which the subject was students of SMK N Binangun and SMA N Sampang in eleventh grade. The number of population were 85 students from TKR and Science departments. The sample of this research was 25% of the total students in the class. Technique collecting data used questionnaire. Based on the result, it was found that both of departments who has same level of students’ interest, with percentage 55.26% of SMK and 67.88% those of SMA. It belonged to middle level. And then, both of schools also who has same level of students’ motivation in learning English. It can be seen in the mean of percentage, 72% of SMK and 74% of SMA. It also belonged to middle level.
