Development of Model Based Local Wisdom Environmental Education in Primary Schools

This study aimed to obtain the education model based on local wisdom in elementary school (SD). (1)
Obtaining data values local knowledge relevant to the wisdom of the environment in the Java
community, (2) Obtaining the data content of the charge of environmental education in the curriculum
of primary education, and data implementation of environmental education on a variety of subjects in
elementary school, (3) Establishment of environmental education model based on local wisdom is
integrated with elementary school subjects.
Forms of research is research and development. Population were all primary schools in the city of
Surakarta. The sampling technique used is stratified random sampling from elementary public and
private, of the strata favorites (top), middle and bottom, respectively strata taken one elementary public
and private, in order to obtain 6 primary to find data implementation of environmental education in
primary schools. Testing a model of environmental education conducted in 3 elementary school. Before
developing environmental education model based on local wisdom carried by stages: (1) identification of
the values of local wisdom related to environmental education and the identification of the content of
the curriculum all subjects in elementary school that includes environmental education topics.
Identification is done by: (a) search the literature on local knowledge and environmental education as
well as elementary curriculum, and (b) indepth interviews with sources who know the values of wisdom
and explore the environments in primary education, (2) between the data Verififikasi obtained in the

identification stage: the values of wisdom environment, environmental education and curriculum
content uncharged elementary environmental education, (3) Prepare draft environmental education
model based on local wisdom for SD, and (4) Test results of model design environment with a teacher
education practitionersenvironmental education. teacher environmental education practitioners and
experts in the field of teaching materials and model environmental education. Stages of the second,
third and fourth above done by the workshop. To test the education model based on local wisdom
integrated with the Java language pelaran eye test done in class at 3 SD.
This research resulted: (1) The values of local wisdom such as: song, geguritan, folklore, customs, myths
and institutions. The values of local wisdom is most commonly found in the standard of competence and
basic competences local content subjects Java language, at all grade levels, (2) the implementation of
environmental education in elementary school (SD) in Surakarta is integrated or integrated with existing
subjects No, it is the subjects of Science, Social Studies, Indonesian, Javanese and Citizenship Education
(Civics), and Religious Education at all grade levels in elementary school, (3) environmental education
models integrated with the Java language courses based on local wisdom worthy to used in SD.
Suggestions for (1) decision makers at the national level curriculum makers (Puskur), Kemendikbud and
policy makers in the field of environment (Ministry of Environment) should cooperate in determining the
content and organization of curriculum subjects-subjects that are integrated with the content of an
environmental education to be more organized, systematic way designed, planned and programmed.
Model-based environmental education integrated into the indigenous language of the region need to be
tested more widely in primary education to meet the implementation of an effective and efficient

environment, (2) For teachers as implementers are advised to allow more teachers to absorb the values
of local wisdom as teaching materials, learning resources, learning strategies and instructional media in

accordance with the characteristics of environmental education, such as learning outside the classroom
while playing, singing, poetry and storytelling, this will attract more students to learn more about the
environment, (3) For the second year research required more extensive testing the effectiveness of
various models of environmental education based on local wisdom that is integrated with the Java
language subjects in elementary school.
