This research paper aims at describing the method used by the teacher in
teaching reading descriptive text at the first year students of SMK N 1 Banyudono
Boyolali, to know the problems faced by the teacher and to know the strategies
implemented by the teacher to overcome the problems.
This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The researcher collects the
data by observing the English class and conducting interview with the teacher. The
data include syllabus, reading materials, field notes and interview script. And the
methods of collecting the data are observation, interview, and documents. From the
research finding and discussion, the researcher draws the following conclusion.
The first, the methods used by the teacher in teaching reading descriptive text
at the first year students of SMK N 1 Banyudono Boyolali are Audio Lingual Method
(ALM) and Grammar Translation Method (GTM). The second, the problems faced
by the teacher are; (1) the teacher finds difficulties in managing the students in the
class, (2) the students have low motivation in learning English, (3) each student has
different capability in receiving the material, and (4) the teacher has limited time in
teaching English. The third, the strategies to overcome the problems are; (1) the
teacher walks around the class in order that the students listen to the explanation
seriously, (2) give motivation by creating good relationship between the teacher and
students, (3) the teacher should explain the material and gives a chance to the
students to ask about the material that they do not understand yet, and (4) the teacher
changes the loss time in the past meeting to explain the unfinished material in the
next meeting.
