ABSTRACT
This writing is talking about the description of Punjabi People marriage. The
marriage on this paper means start from the action of engagement till the weding.
When a young boy and a young girl want to get marriage because they are falling
in love, one of the boy’s relatives go to see the girl’s parents to tell them that the
boy and the girl want to get marriage. As this good news received and accepted by
the girl’s parents the boy’s parents and thir relative make an agreement of
applying the wishes. For this coming to the girl’s parents is the renponsible of the
girl’s parents for the services, include the food for the meeting. Before the weding
there are four activities to be fulfilled. The girl’s parents need to buy gold ring to
given to the coming son in law. They put it on to his finger. Weding ceremony
usually taken place at a temple and at the temple a priest is usually conducting the
ceremony. The days of the weding firstly chosen Sunday and if possible, but if not
it will be on Wednesday. A week before the weding the girls parents have to
deliver their girl’s clothes and a set of furniture.

ABSTRAK
Paper ini membicarakan tentang tradisi perkawinan masyarakat Punjabi yang
bertempat tinggal atau berdomisili di Medan. Perkawinan dimaksud di sini adalah
mulai dari pertunangan hingga mencapai pernikahan. Bila ada seorang pemuda
dan seorang gadis yang ingin menikah karena sudah saling jatuh cinta, maka salah
seorang dari keluarga laki-laki akan menyampaikan keinginan mereka kepada
orangtua si gadis. Setelah menerima berita tersebut dan mendapat persetujuan
maka keluarga pihak laki-laki akan menyampaikan waktu kedatangan mereka
sebagai menyampaikan lamaran untuk pertunangan. Pada saat keluarga laki-laki
pergi ke rumah orangtua si gadis maka segala biaya pertemuan akan menjadi
tanggungjawab orangtua si gadis. Pada saat acara sudah dimulai maka kedua
orangtua si gadis akan menyematkan sebuah cincin emas kepada calaon
menatunya. Cincin in pun dibeli oleh orangtua si gadis. Sebelum tiba waktu
pelaksanaan pesta pernikahan maka akan ada empat kali pertemuan yang diadakan
di rumah orangtua mereka masing-masing. Pesta perkawinan pada umumnya
mereka akan laksanakan pada hari Minggu, tetapi bila tidak dapat hari Minggu
maka hanya satu lagi pilihan, yaitu hari Rabu. Seminggu sebelum pesta
perkawinan orangtua si gadis harus sudah mengantarkan semua pakaian putrinya
serta beberapa peralatan rumah tangga.
