Education is important and every people need education; without
education, it is hard to compete with others. I chose education as the field of
apprenticeship because in my opinion, education sector can be a business
opportunity which is profitable. It is expected that in the future, if I work as a
teacher or establish a private course, I will have enough experience and
knowledge in this sector. The reason I choose Logic Learning Centre (LLC) as
the place where I do apprenticeship is because LLC has a good reputation, so I
believe if I do my apprenticeship at LLC, I will get a lot of experiences especially
in teaching.
Logic Learning Centre (LLC), which is located at Jalan Kopo Permai F8/7
was founded on 27th July 2002. LLC already has a good reputation in education
sector especially in the Southern area of Bandung. LLC exists to give knowledge
to their students so they have sufficient skills that will be beneficial in the future.
LLC was founded by 4 main founders, namely Mrs. Elisabeth Purawidjaja, Mr.
Kuncoro Samadikun, Mr. Santoso Tjahjadidja and Mr. Herry Gunawan. The
reason they used the name “Logic Learning Centre (LLC)” was because they
hoped that every students who study at LLC will develop their way of thinking
with logical comprehension.
At the beginning, LLC opened two classes; they were English class and
super brain class. Now LLC has 3 classes, they are English class, Mandarin
class, and private class, in which the students review their school lessons such
as mathematics, language, and geography. LLC also equips its place with

complete equipments to support study activities, such as classes with air conditioner,
a library, computers, an audio-visual class, and a canteen.
I did my apprenticeship as a teacher at LLC for one month. There are
requirements that must be completed before working as an English teacher at LLC.
The applicant must be a man or woman over 21 years old, graduating from DIII / S1
English Programme and able to speak English fluently. He or she also has to be
capable to operate computer, especially Microsoft word. Because the job deals with
the children, so the teachers must like children and also be patient with them.
The routine activities that I do during the apprenticeship at LLC include
preparing the materials. After the material is already prepared, I explain the material
to the teaching team so they will know their task. Then, I teach the students about the
material that is already prepared, and afterwards I make a report consisting that
day’s topic, activities used, attendance of the students, and the aim of the lesson.
Finally, I submit the report to the education coordinator.
During my apprenticeship at LLC, I work in a team consist with 4 teacher, I
just teach for four days in one week. There is one leader teacher in a meeting and
the other teacher work as assistant and they just monitoring situation of the class and
help the student if they face the difficulties. On Monday and Thursday from 2 until 3
o’clock, I teach grade one and two. After this class, I teach grade three and four from
3 until 4 o’clock. On Tuesday and Friday from 2 until 3 o’clock, I teach kindergarten.
After this class, there is a break time until 5 o’clock. After the break time, I teach
grade five and six from 5 until 6 o’clock. That is my routine schedule in one week.
There are some dominating jobs that I do during my apprenticeship at LLC.
First, if the students have difficulties to understand the materials, I help them and
explain the materials to them one by one. Second, sometimes the situation in the
class becomes chaotic and noisy so in such situation, I usually monitor the class

during the lesson to make it more controllable. The third dominating task is teaching
the material according to the lesson plan that I have made.
After one month of doing apprenticeship at LLC, I realized there are so
many skills that I have learnt at DIII English Programme that are very useful to do
the apprenticeship, such as listening, speaking, writing and reading skills. However,
the skills are not used perfectly because of some problems, like the students not
understanding completely when I explain the materials in English language.
Therefore sometimes I must use mixed languages between Indonesian and
English. When I do apprenticeship at LLC, there are some difficulties that I face,
like it is hard for me to teach the students with different levels who are assigned in
one class because the material which I have already prepared is no longer suitable
with the students.
Some knowledge that is very helpful for me when I do my apprenticeship at
LLC is obtained from the following classes: Teaching English for Young Learners
(TEYL), Effective Oral Presentation (EOP) and Teaching English as Foreign
Language (TEFL). The lessons in TEYL class help me to understand the
characters of each student and how to handle the children. With EOP lessons I can
learn how to speak and do presentation in front of the class. The lesson in TEFL
class is very useful because after I study it, I know how to make a lesson plan and
choose the material that suits the students’ level of English.
After I finished my apprenticeship period, there was an evaluation from my
supervisor in relation to my strengths and my weaknesses. Overall, my supervisor
said to me that she is satisfied with all my work during my apprenticeship for one
month at LLC, but she gives me some comments to improve my English skill. My
supervisor also gives me some suggestions to improve my writing skill because
there were some mistakes that I did in writing lesson plans and a little bit feedback
about my speaking skill.

Overall, there are so many experiences and new skills that I learn when I do
apprenticeship at LLC, starting from making a lesson plan, understanding how to
teach the student, how to manage a class, working with a team, until persuading a
student who does not want to study. I got all of them during apprenticeship at LLC
and I really feel that they are beneficial for the betterment of my teaching skill.
There are some suggestions for LLC, DIII English Programme and DIII
English Networking. For LLC, it would be better if one class consists of students who
have the same age or grade, so I hope LLC can pay more attention toward the class
distribution, because it is very important. Another suggestion from me is if LLC wants
a class consisting of students who have different ages or grades, I think it would be
better if the students who want to study at LLC take an English placement test first.
As a result, the teacher can assign the suitable materials for the students.
An input for DIII English Programme is I think apprenticeship programme is very
useful for the students. This programme also gives so many experiences and new
skills for their students. I strongly suggest DIII English Programme to keep this
programme. I also hope that DIII English networking programme can provide more
apprenticeship places for the apprentices, especially in business sector.
