CHAPTER V CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTIONS

This chapter consists of two parts. The first part contains of the conclusion of the study, while the second part includes the suggestions for the English teachers or instructors and the future researchers.

A. CONCLUSION

This study was aimed at designing a set of English reading materials using Contextual Teaching and Learning for the seventh grade students of Pangudi Luhur I Junior High School. After completing the study, the writer concluded three points. They are: 1. In designing the materials, the writer adapted Kemp’s model which was combined with Yalden’s model. The combination of Kemp’s and Yalden’s model was used to answer the first questions. The combination of the models was presented as follows: conducting needs survey; determining competency standard, basic competence and topics; determining indicators; listing the subject content that supports each objective; selecting teaching learning activities and resources; designing the instructional materials; evaluating the instructional materials; and revising the instructional materials. 2. To answer the second question of this study, the writer designed a set of English reading materials using Contextual Teaching and Learning for the seventh grade of Pangudi Luhur I Junior High School. The eight units of the designed materials are presented as follows: Unit 1 : Introduction Unit 2 : School Life Unit 3 : Family Unit 4 : Shopping Unit 5 : Foods and drinks Unit 6 : Hobbies Unit 7 : Professions Unit 8 : Animals In the designed materials, each unit consists of three components. They are Pre-reading, whilst-reading, and Post reading. The final version of the materials can be seen in Appendix G. 3. In the evaluating the materials, the writer distributed questionnaires to five respondents to obtain feedback, comments, and suggestion about the designed materials. The result of the questionnaire showed that the instructional materials were acceptable and applicable since the mean for each statement was above 3.5. Thus, the writer concluded that generally, the respondents agreed that the designed materials were suitable for the seventh grade students of Junior High School. However, there were some revisions that were made to make the designed materials better. The revision and improvement were based on the respondents’ feedback and suggestions.
