The name of “papalele” has two functions that are as the
business subject and functioned as explaining about trading
activity. While, the means of “papalele” is buying and selling
again to getting a small profit (Mailoa, 2006).
To guiding this research in order to maintain in initial
objective, there is needed the thesis that can be a research
guide. The main thesis of this research is the collaboration
pattern that more rational, as the form in sustainability and
continuity of local economic activity, than competition.
The papalele collaboration in the same manner of this
research result, there is presenting a contradictive with small
trader in general. This contradictive can be presented through
several things, which are: first, the trading process especially
among small business in economic perspective up till now were

always relating with competition mechanism. For a trader, if
they have not a better business management ability will be

inability of managing a business in the competition will cause a
business facing a bankrupting. Second, as the business
mechanism, in general was always related with the ability of
trader or the trader must developing their business so that
growing in the future. The main orientation is business
development.
The papalele as presented from this research result was
against the existing fact. The power of papalele was placed at
social aspect that developed through a networking among
papalele and among trader as business partner. With social
equity – the fidelity guarantee through “janji” mechanism and
fashion as the power identity of solidarity, papalele was creating

an identity to keep standing and exist up till now. While, on the
other side, the papalele orientation was not addressed to
business development, but oriented to developing family social
status (klan) and old age benefit
.
