The Description of Data

B. The Description of Data

There are two instruments used to get the data in conducting the research with the two variables the Reading Comprehension test score and IQ test score. it was mentioned in the previous chapter, that the writer conducted field research and documentation research. The form of the test were different in the topic. The score of reading comprehension test got from the student reading comprehension test by the writers, and the score IQ derived from the data of YACOBI Yayasan Consultasi dan Bimbingan each of the criterion has 8 levels Classification and description of student C. The Data Analysis The score of data of this research have been obtained by doing research on the influence of students intelligence on their reading comprehension test scores to the eight class students at SMPN 2 Pamulang In this chapter the writer gives the report concerning with the data description, compares the results of those two scores. The data of psychological test result and reading comprehension scores can be seen on the following table in data analysis To simplify calculation the writer makes an interval ordinal scale of psychological test result and reading comprehension scores point, as seen on the table.The formula is: No Nama Siswa Reading score IQ score 1 Student 1 80 120 2 Student 2 76 123 3 Student 3 80 118 4 Student 4 80 106 5 Student 5 84 32 6 Student 6 84 114 7 Student 7 72 108 8 Student 8 72 114 9 Student 9 70 108 10 Student 10 84 117 11 Student 11 84 124 12 Student 12 84 102 13 Student 13 56 95 14 Student 14 72 112 15 Student 15 68 105 16 Student 16 68 89 17 Student 17 80 123 18 Student 18 76 98 19 Student 19 76 108 20 Student 20 72 108 21 Student 21 68 86 22 Student 22 68 97 23 Student 23 68 91 24 Student 24 80 116 25 Student 25 76 92 26 Student 26 68 87 27 Student 27 72 101 28 Student 28 60 86 29 Student 29 76 107 30 Student 30 80 106 31 Student 31 68 95 32 Student 32 80 134 33 Student 33 84 134 34 Student 34 72 110 35 Student 35 56 85 36 Student 36 72 91 37 Student 37 64 101 38 Student 38 64 98 The score of reading comprehension test SCORE Higher IQ level X Lower IQ level Y x y x² y² 80 80 3 9 76 84 -1 4 1 16 80 56 -3 9 84 68 1 1 84 68 1 1 72 76 -2 2 4 4 72 68 -2 4 70 68 -3 9 84 68 1 1 84 76 1 2 1 4 72 68 -2 4 80 72 1 1 76 60 -1 -2 1 4 72 80 -2 3 4 9 80 68 -0 76 56 -1 -3 1 9 80 72 1 1 84 64 1 -1 1 1 72 64 -1 -1 4 1 X= 1478 Y= 1316 x² = 37 y² = 68 Based on the table above, the writer has calculated the result X = 1478 and Y = 1316. Then the writer tried to find out the mean variable with the formula: 78 . 77 19 1478 = = = N X Mx 26 . 69 19 1316 = = = N Y Mg Based on the data above the writer tried to calculate standard deviation with the formula : 395 . 1 95 . 1 19 37 2 = = = = N X SD x 892 . 1 58 . 3 19 68 2 = = = = N Y SD y Based on the data above the writer tried to calculate the standard error with the formla : 329 . 24 . 4 395 . 1 18 395 . 1 1 19 395 . 1 1 = = = − = − = N SD SE x Mx 446 . 24 . 4 892 . 1 18 892 . 1 1 19 892 . 1 1 = = = − = − = N SD SE y My After gaining the result SEMx and SEMy, the writer calculated standard error differences between variable X and Y: 2 2 2 2 2 1 446 . 329 . + = + = − M M My Mx SE SE SE 55 . 307157 . 198916 . 108241 . = = + = The last procedure of the calculation is determining the result of t o t observation of test with the formula : to = M x - M y SE Mx-My 49 . 15 55 . 52 . 8 55 . 26 . 69 78 . 77 2 1 = = − = − − = M SE M M t M y x The result 15.49 indicates that there is difference of degree as much as 15.49 between variable X and Y. Then in order to complete the result of this research, the writer tried to find out the degree of freedom df with the formula : df = N 1 +N 2 – 2 = 19 + 19 -2 = 36 Based on the table above, df 36 at significant of 5 and 1 are : t table at significant level of 5 = 2.02 t table at significant level of 1 = 2.71 So the result is = 2.02 15.49 2.71 If the means that t o t observation is higher than t table
