Six Sigma (DMAIC) Implementation In Manufacturing Industry.

ABSTRACT

This project presented a study of Six Sigma implementation in electronic manufacturing
industry using DMAIC methodology as an approach to eliminate waste and cost in
industry. Based on the trend scrap at Continental Automotive Component (CAC) Sdn
Bhd, the component damage recorded average RM25000.00 started from November '07
to December '07. The objectives of this project were to identify the root cause and
propose countermeasure to solve the component damage problem in the Final Assembly
Production using Six Sigma DMAIC methodology. DMAIC comprise the major phases
of a process improvement project. Based on finding result on analyze phase, three
factors were identified as root cause of component damage which were Sharp Edges at
Depanelling Station, Fixture Design-Selective Waves and EPB Hand Press Jig.
Improvement plan was done after validation of three factors as root cause of component
damage using variety of statistical tool and technique. The major contribution of this
project is reducing the scrap cost when the quantity and value of component damage was
reduced at the end of this project.
