1 CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background to the Topic

As a student in a university, the writer should do job training as one of requirements to fulfill one of the subject in 7th semester in English Department of Indonesia University of Computer. Therefore, the writer decides to take the entrepreneurship for his job training. The writer chooses this job because there are many profits will be gained by working in this business. And then, the writer establishes the company that run the business on English lesson poster printing.

English lesson poster is a poster containing some attractive pictures and some lessons about English such as; profession, tenses, irregular noun etc. It’s caused in this modern era, English is one of important thing to be learned. There are several ways to learn English lesson; one of them is learn by using a poster. To introduce the poster for the costumer, a social network as one of tool is used.

A social network is used as a tool to introduce the poster because in this century, social network is one of important thing for human life. It’s caused that social network is always described as key position to technological development in the world. Nowadays, social media network has become popular to make entrepreneurship such as; Twitter, Google, Kaskus, Blog, Facebook, Friendster, etc. They are very popular and many people use them because with them we can easily access everything that we want. One of the popular media is Blog. Besides

easily to be managed, Blog is more often viewed by millions users. The use of Blog can help the company to get the success. On Blog we can promote the product by using an essay. A kind of essay used is persuasive essay that it will be effective way to promote the products.

According the explanation above, the writer decides to use the topic “The use of persuasive essay on Blog to promote poster” to fulfill this report.

1.2 Scope

This paper will describe one of the ways of advertising in social network that focuses on the use of persuasive essay when promoting poster on Blog.

1.3 Objectives

The objectives of this job training report are:

1) To describe the persuasive essay in promoting poster on Blog.

2) To acquire experiences in managing the company

The writer expects this job training report will be useful in developing student skill for understanding about promoting on internet especially on social

media Blog by using persuasive essay. This report also can be used as a reference for those who will take entrepreneurship as a job training course.

1.5 The Framework of the Theory

In this frame of the theory the writer uses the theory of the persuasive essay, as it is stated in a book called How to Write an Essay:

“Most essays are persuasive in nature—that is, the writer is trying to

convince the reader of something, even if it’s factual”. (Gabriel

Arquilevich, 1999: 46)

It means that this method is focused on persuasive essay that is used to promote the product.

1.6 Method

The method used by the writer is a descriptive method. This method is the correct method to this report, as explained by Fatimah Djajasudarma:

“metode deskriptif merupakan gambaran ciri-ciri data secara akurat sesuai dengan sifat alamiah itu sendiri. Data-data yang dikumpulkan bukan berupa angka-angka melainkan berupa kata-kata”. (2006.16) In this case, the writer will explain and describe about persuasive essay that is used to promote on Blog.

1.7 Place and Time

This job training is held in Si Dupan Poster. The office of this company is at Jl. Tubagus Ismail Bawah No. 40 Bandung. It is conducted on July 1st, 2011 to September 14th_{, 2011.}

5 CHAPTER II

THE BUSSINESS OF SI DUPAN POSTER

2.1 The General Description of Si Dupan Poster

Si Dupan poster is abbreviation for Sastra Inggris Dua Ribu Delapan Poster is a company which was established on July 2011 in Bandung. It’s located at Jl. Tubagus Ismail Bawah no. 40, Bandung, West Java. We built this company to fulfill job training in 7th _{semester. This company is focused on promoting and} producing English lesson posters for beginner.

The first way to run this company is promoting. Promoting is part of business strategies. Similar with promoting, producing is the important thing to run this company. Before producing the poster, we try to find out some difficulties in learning English for beginner. And then we try to give solution by producing some English lesson in the poster form.

After we have observed the problem, we find that many students still use conventional media, such as book or student worksheet. It makes the student feel bored to learn English. In this case, we find a new innovation to learn English more fun by using posters which are more simply. This poster contains some attractive pictures in helping student to understand some specific easily materials. The posters produced by Si Dupan Poster are according to consumers’ order.

The company prints all posters at Tirta Anugrah Digital Printing, which is located at 65c Taman Sari Street, Bandung, West Java. The production of the

poster starts with the survey and the promotion to potential costumer led by the promotion manager. After that, the material-processing manager processes the result of survey, and the design manager puts it into a good poster.

In marketing process, the company provides a several ways of ordering, such as direct or via online ordering. The most effective way is ordering via online, like as via Email, Facebook, Blog, Twitter, Kaskus and any other social media on internet.

2.2 Job Position

The writer’s job position in Si Dupan Poster is design manager. This job is to make design poster get more attractive and unique. And also the writer takes part to evaluate the design.

2.3 Coordination

During the job training, the writer coordinates with the leader of the company to make attractive design. The writer also modifies the media used to promote, such as Facebook, Blog and other media.

2.4 Responsibilities

As the design manager and manager of production, the writer has responsibility to make posters get more interest with the design. And then, the writer also has responsibility to all posters that would be produced by the company.

Although the writer has several responsibilities to the leader of the company in this job training, this report is only focused on the poster promotion on Blog.

THE DESCRIPTION OF THE TOPIC

3.1 The use of persuasive essay on Blog to promote poster

3.1.1 Explanation

In this modern era, the huge number of internet user has grown the popularity of internet marketing. There are many places that the company can promote the product on social media network, such as Facebook, Twitter, Blog and other media. The social media networks are the favorite places for promoting because the product will be viewed by millions users. Therefore, the writer chooses the social media Blog to promote the poster.

Social media Blog is abbreviation from Weblog, it is one of application web containing with several texts. The text is entered by using a posting. On blog we can easily find several links of the other website. This media is usually visited by internet users according to the subject and the purpose of the users.

On social media Blog, promoting the poster can be done not only by using the simple sentence but also can use in a paragraph or essay to make promoting more detail. Therefore, the writer chooses to make a persuasive essay as a tool to promote the poster. The persuasive essay made in promoting the poster, is:

And how to master it well?” this state is some problem that stimulate costumer desire. This data are key part to make a good persuasive essay because after the writer convinces the costumer about English, the data are closed by giving the solution of the problem.

In this paragraph, the writer starts to offer the product for the costumer and explain several materials that content in the product.

In this case, the writer offers another way to order the product. The writer receives the order according what the customer wants. However, the order is limited (not in all English lessons).

3.1.2 Problem and Solution

During promoting on Blog, the writer faced the problem in making an appropriate sentence will be used in persuasive essay to promote the product. It’s caused since the sentence usually used in the essay seems too force the reader to follow what is suggested by the writer.

To treat the problem, the writer has to read many books about persuasive essay, especially in internet marketing. In addition, the writer also reads some examples of persuasive essay around the internet. Then, the writer chooses the simple words in order to easily be understood.

CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

4.1 Conclusion

Entrepreneur which is one kind of business that becomes popular in this era is not difficult thing to be done. Si Dupan’s company which is running on poster selling especially English lesson poster starts the business by making promotion. In making the promotion, there are some items that must be done:

1. Knowing the product, the poster which is produced by the company is about English lesson.

2. Knowing the target market, the product is especially for the students.

3. Estimating the budget

By making a promotion means that we must make something different to promote the product. One of the ways to make a good promotion is by using Blog. It is kind of the social media where a writing form or text is needed. Kind of writing used is persuasive writing or essay. By using Blog, the company do not have to spend much money to promote and the product produced can easily be accessed by the costumer.

4.2 Suggestion

For students who want to take entrepreneurship as job training, must prepare and manage the company well in order to get benefit in running this company.

For faculty, it is suggested that the course ‘entrepreneurship’ is given in earlier semester before students should take job training course. It will make more students take entrepreneurship as job training.
