Based on that phenomenon, the researcher analyzes how photograph as a visual aid is applied by the teacher in teaching report text writing. The researcher
combines the use of photograph with report text based on the teaching purposes. The definition of photograph in this context means the photo which was taken by
someone with a camera based on the facts and real occurrences Sieber Hatcher 2012, p. 19. However, this statement is appropriate with the definition of report text.
According to Emilia 2012, p. 87, report text functions to give factual information about certain topics, she also adds that report text classifies and describes phenomena
in the environment. In this research, the researcher focuses on the use of photograph in English
classroom. Based on the background above, this study aims to provide an outline of how the use of photograph as a visual aid helps the teacher in teaching report text
writing in English Foreign Language Classroom at a Junior High School in Bandung, West Java. The researcher explores the process of the use of photograph in the
teaching, include how the teacher is designing the lesson plan, selecting the photograph, the teaching process, and the result of the use of photograph in teaching
report text writing.
1.2 Research Question
The study will be conducted to answer the problem formulated in the following question:
How does the teacher use photograph as a visual aid in teaching report text writing?

1.3 Purpose of the Research
Based on the research question formulated above, the aim of this study is as follows: To explore the use of photograph as a visual aid by the teacher in teaching
report text writing.
1.4 Scope of the Research
In this study, the researcher focuses on the use of photograph as a visual aid in the teaching to help the teacher in delivering the information of writing report text in the
EFL Classroom. This study was limited in a Junior High School in Bandung. The participants involved in this study were an English teacher as the main participant in
this study and also a class consisted of 35 students the ninth grade students of Junior
High School.
1.5 Significance of the Research
The findings of the study are expected to give contributions and some benefits in the case of theoretical benefits, practical benefits, and professional benefits.
1. Theoretical benefits
This study is expected to be useful in the education field in order to improve the educator or the
learner’s abilities through photograph as a visual aid. This research is expected to be useful to enrich the literature about interesting media
in teaching.
2. Practical benefits

Practically, this study is expected to be beneficial for the teachers, the students and the education institute. For the teachers and the education institute, this
study gives sources to create various interesting and modern teaching method through photograph as a visual aid. This study will help the teachers to develop
their teaching skills and also improve their professionalism in education. Besides, this research is also useful for the learners who are looking for
interesting media in learning English that can improve their writing skill, especially writing report text.
3. Professional benefits
In professional perspective, this study is expected to develop the teachers’
integrity in teaching English as Foreign Language. The teacher can improve their integrity
in teaching in proportion to the improvement of their students’ ability as well as the improvement of good atmosphere in the classroom.
Furthermore, this research also supports the information for similar studies in the future.
