The Bravery of Hester Prynne.

48 Hester over comes the shame of sin through the purity of goodness of her soul. Unselfishly offering her time and love to those who need her most proves that she is not worthy of the fatewhich has been dealt to her. The three changes in the scarlet letter are significant : they show the progressive possition of her sin, her lonely life, and her ability. Hester is a strong admirable women who goes to more emotional torture that most people go through in a life time.

4.4.2 The Bravery of Hester Prynne.

Nathaniels Hawthorne’s novel of sin and forgiveness the scarlet letter, takes a look at the life of Puritan women name Hester Prynne. Hester is a scornet women, having borne a child who can claim no father, in a corrupt and manached society. Though the book the three most prominent traits of misstres Hester Prynne are her pride bravery and trustworthiness. Hester’s pride is what sustain her through the years. From the beginning Hester tries to hide her shame by depicting the letter as a thing of beauty. She decorates and embroiders it until it becomes nothing more than a decorative symbol. “on the breast of her gown, in fine red cloth, surrounded with an elaborate embroidery and fantastic flourishes of gold threads, appeared the letter A … it had all the effect of a last and fitting decoration to the apparel she wore pg.57 “ Hester’s still acknowledges her shame, when she, “in a moment, however, wisely judging that one token of her shame would but poorly serve to hid another, she took the baby on her arm, and with a burning blash, and yet a naughty smile and a glance that would not be abashed, looked around at her townspeople and 49 neighbours pg.110 “Hester’s pride however, allows her neither option. She stays in Boston faces the punishment for her sin, and works to improve her life. Without her bravery, she might have lost both Pearl and her own self – respect. Her bravery , shines through when she is patronize in front of the town. “With almost a serene deportment, therefore , Hester Pryne passed through this portion of ordeal, and came to assort of scaffold pg.60 She uses much of her bravery to protect her daughter Pearl. This bravery is tested when Governoor Bellingham, following public option, tries to declare Hester as an unfit mother. Using false accusations, he tries to manipulate Pearl into denouncing false beliefs. It is only when Hester speaks the truth, that he withdraws his claims. 50

5.1 Conclusion

Having analysed the novel from the beginning up to the end, the writer of this paper want to conclusion that : 1. Do not having an affair in a relationship because it would make bad problems, such as the story on the characters in this novel. 2. In the end, the secret of Hester Prynne was uncovered that he had an affair with the pastor named Dimmesdale. 3. Since the affair between both of them Hester and Dimmesdale has revealed, then, the people were trash them both, especially Hester Prynne is regarded as a woman who has no manners because her behavior. 4. Their affair finally be a disaster for both of them, because they are blinded by love and lust. 5. At the end of the story, Hester Prynne was finally wearing a necklace with the initials ‘A’ which is very large in her chest, ‘A’ which means ‘Adulterers’ and throughout her life she had to bear the shame. “On a field, sable, the letter A, gules.”
