4.4 The T-test Analysis

In this chapter, the writer would like to determine the different achievement between experimental and control groups, which was reflected on the means gathered. The writer would apply the t-test formula to count the difference. The t-test formula is: Sudjana, 2005:239 The study was intended to investigate whether there was any significant difference of ability in reading narrative text between the students taught using DR-TA method and those taught using conventional method. To measure the significance of the pretest and the posttest, the t-test was used. T-value obtained from the computation should be consulted with the critical value in the t-table. The result of the consultation was then used as an attempt to verify the hypothesis. Before applying the t-test formula, the standard deviation should be computed first. The formula is as follows: S 1 S 1 2 1 S 2 2 2 S , , S , , S , S , d a t r t C s After difference b as follows: For a = 5 To int the t-table t research, the table, it me Contrary, if significant d r that, the etween the e and df = 30 terpret the t to check wh e 5 0.05 eant that the f the t-valu difference be t-test formu experimenta 0 + 30 - 2 = 5 2.00 2, obtained, it hether the di level of sign ere was sig ue was lowe etween two m ula was ap al group and 58, t = 2,000 ,774 should be c ifference wa nificance is u gnificant dif er than t-ta means. pplied to m d the control consulted wi as significan used. At the 5 0.05 alpha level of significance, t-value that was obtained was , and t-table was 2,000, so the t-value is higher than t-table. It meant that there was significant difference between two means. Therefore, there was significant difference in achievement between students who were taught reading narrative text by using DRTA method and those who were taught by using conventional method.
