B. Rationale

Learning design is a system which its components: the learners, the instructor, the instructional material and the learning environment work together toward a defined goal. Learning design has the main function to plan, develop, evaluate, and manage the instructional process effectively so that it will ensure competence and performance of the students. The new paradigm in teaching learning process constructivism influence much in learning design. Under the theory of constructivism, educators focus on making connections between facts and fostering new understanding of students. Instructors tailor their teaching strategies to student responses and encourage students to analyze, interpret, and predict information. Teachers also rely heavily on open-ended questions and promote extensive dialogue among students. There are some reasons why constructivist learning design can be effective to improve the quality of English teaching. When constructivist learning is applied, the learners learn more and enjoy learning more. They actively involve in learning process rather than becoming passive listeners. Learners in constructivist classroom learn to question things and to apply their natural curiosity to the world. Constructivism promotes social and communication skills by creating a classroom environment that emphasizes collaboration and exchange of ideas. Student must learn how to articulate their ideas clearly as well as to collaborate on tasks effectively by sharing in group projects.

C. Action Hypothesis

After discussing the theoretical review and rationale, the writer proposes action hypothesis that constructivist learning design can improve the quality of English teaching.

CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

In this chapter, the writer discusses research methodology consisting: setting of the research, the subject of the research, the method of the research, procedure of the data collection, method of research instrument, and technique of analyzing data.
