Setting Subject RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

to have face and content validity, the researcher used the course objective of the English lesson for kindergarten students as the consideration to determine the material to be tested and the form of the test. In order to see the contributions of the Natural Method to improve the vocabulary acquisition, the writer used observation check list during the treatment. There was one observer to observe the activities of both classes. The observer was English teacher. The observer was given explanation about each item in the observation list before observing the class. The observation check list consisted of a list of items about the occurrence of some activities that improve the vocabulary acquisition during the class activity. The activities were recorded in term of frequency of occurrence in order to identify more clearly as suggested by Best 1986. The observation check list was as follow: Frequency of Occurrence Activity 1 2 3 4 5 Where, 1 = never 2 = rarely 3 = occasionally 4 = frequently 5 = always

F. Research Procedure

In order to conduct the research, the writer took the following steps: 1. the writer conducted library research 2. the writer asked the permission of TK Indriyasana Baciro 3. the writer designed a pre test 4. the writer conducted a pre test to measure the vocabulary proficiency of the students. 5. the writer conducted experimental research. The writer needed ten meeting to conduct the experimental research. The first meeting was for the pre test, eight meeting for the treatment, and the tenth meeting was to evaluate the vocabulary improvement of the students. 6. the writer presented the result of the pre test and post test in a table and then analyze them statistically. The writer also presented the result of the observation during the treatment. 7. the writer drew conclusion from the analysis.

G. Analysis of the Data

In order to measure the significance of the main scores on the pre test and post test of the experimental group, Non Independent sample t-test matched test was used to analyze the data. The mean score of the pre test and the post test was compared and the result of the comparison was the t-observed. The following was the Non Independent sample t-test formula. SD x x t obs 2 1       1 1 2 2            N N D n SD D
