Impedance Fundamental Antenna Properties
b Matching Network Losses A matching circuit or a network is constructed at the antenna terminals in
order to match the impedances. This is due to the terminal impedance of an antenna that usually will not exactly match the characteristic impedance of
the connecting transmission line to the required VSWR level.
c Material Losses Antennas are constructed of discrete materials which include both metallic
and non-metallic components. When these materials are used during the design process of an antenna, especially for the dielectric substrates or wire
elements, they will dissipate some energy as heat rather than radiating the signals.
While considering these factors during the antenna design, it clearly shows
that the antenna has to overcome a lot of adversity in order to achieve an acceptable gain value. These losses also can be eliminated or minimized by analysing the
structure of the antenna. [10]
