Abstract
Cold lava is a secondary disaster that occurs after primary volcanic eruptions. Mitigation
of cold lava is an important activity, especially in the area around the disaster. The use of
instructional media as a tool in strengthening the knowledge of mitigation, is an alternative to the
dissemination of information. Instructional media is made using active learning method to help
understanding the mitigation of cold lava. Instructional media contains elements didactic that is
equipped with animation, images and sound. Target users for this application is to teach students
of junior high school. The application of active learning methods to help students to solve a
problem that demands a high level of thinking in the material mitigation cold lava. Testing the
system is carried out by comparing between the conventional learning with multimedia -based
learning, and combining with the application of active learning methods, performing to determine
the effectiveness and efficiency of the media's influence on the value of students' learning.There
are two groups: group A conventional learning and group B instructional media increased value
of 0.689.
