The Development of Students’ Pronunciation through Repeated Listening to
Authentic Materials

Abstract
This present study aimed to investigate the development of students’ pronunciation
through repeated listening to authentic materials. This research attempted to answer whether
students’ pronunciation developed through repeated listening to authentic materials. There were
5 participants in this study. A video file from VOA special English Education Report
(voaspecialenglish.com) was used as the instrument to collect the data from the participants. The
participants were given the opportunity to watch and listen the video file from VOA. Then, they
were allowed to read the text script of the video file and their mispronunciation was recorded.
The study found two major findings. First, by using an audio video file, students improved their
pronunciation ability as indicated by the number of pronunciation mistakes. Second, a video text

could be used to improve pronunciation.

Key words: pronunciation, repeated listening, speaking classes, audio video file, EFL
students, presenters, VOA.
