DINAMIKA ISU REPUBLIK MALUKU SELATAN (RMS) TERHADAP
MASYARAKAT AMBON DALAM KONFLIK 1999

ABSTRACT
RMS (Republik Maluku Selat an) issues and it s influence In Ambon Conflict 1999
aims t o explain how t he RMS issue emer ged and it s influence on t he conflict t hat
occur r ed in Ambon. RMS issues never discussed and was never a dominant t opic
in polit ical and social life in t he communit y of Ambon since 1962. RMS issues
became a major issue aft er t he 1999 conflict . The conflict which had occur r ed as
a r esult of t he t wo young men who come fr om differ ent et hnic gr oups went on t o
develop int o a conflict bet ween r eligions. In t he midst of t he conflict appear ed a
st at ement fr om sever al par t ies who claimed t hat t he RMS is t he par t y t hat
r esponsible for Muslims killing and sect ar ian-based St at e wants t o est ablish
Chr ist ianit y in t he Sout h Mollucas.
The r esult of t his fr aming mobilizat ion appear ed in lar ge number s by one
r eligious or ganizat ion t o Ambon will be analyzed using t he t heor y of social
movements and t he emot ion t heor y. The fact or s of a social movement fr aming
and mobilizat ion is t he pr ocess by which allows because of t he Polit ical
Oppor t unit y aft er t he collapse of t he aut hor it y of Gover nment ot or it ar ian under
Suhar t o. The issue of t he RMS developed media by quot ing st at ement s fr om some
r eligious figur es and St at e officials as t he r esponsible par t y in t he conflict . As a
r esult of t his issue leads t o a wider r ealm by engaging gr oups like laskar jihad
wer e sympat het ic and moved by emot ion because both r eligious and solidar it y as
well as nat ionalism. In addit ion t o t he r eligious solidar it y gr oup was also
mot ivat ed t o fight t he RMS movement . t he pr evalence of FKM (Fr ont Kedaulat an
Maluku) as t he exist ence of t he issue of RMS wit h it s act ivit ies lat er hamper ed t he
peace pr ocess and will be influent ial in impr oving t he conflict escalat ion of
Ambon.
