ABSTRACT
The paper entitled “English Vocabulary of a 7 Year Old American Boy” analysed about the
types of words in the English language with the term parts of speech. The writer analysed the
data to determine the most dominant of the parts of speech. All the data were taken by
analyzing a 7 year old American boy directly. The analysis has been done by recording the
dialogue between a 7 year old American boy along with his father and the writer. The width
of the video about 10 minutes for 1 time that was taken 2 times. There are nine types of parts
of speech in English, those are: Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb, Pronoun, Preposition,
Conjunction, Interjection, and the Article and all the parts of speech were found in a 7 year
old American boy’s vocabulary. Each of part of speech has several functions in English. Each
of type of parts of speech is determined by the type of the word. The method used in this
study was descriptive and qualitative method by using case study or approach method to get
the most dominant of the parts of speech. There were 98 English vocabularies in English
vocabulary of a 7 year old American boy, those were 45,9% nouns, 16,3% verbs, 12,2%
adjectives, 08,1% adverbs, 06,1% pronouns, 04,0% prepositions, 05,1% conjunctions, 02,0%
interjections, and 04,0% articles. It can be concluded that the most dominant part of speech
found in English vocabulary of a 7 year old American boywas noun that was about 45,9% or
45 nouns without repetition.The writer listed all the parts of speech found in a 7 year old
American boy in a table and took the frequency of the data and then came to the conclusion
to get the most dominant of the parts of speech. The writer hopes that this paper can give a
valuable information about vocabulary, parts of speech and functions of parts of speech in
English.

Kertas karya yang berjudul “English Vocabulary of a 7 Year Old American Boy”
menganalisis tentang jenis-jenis kata dalam bahasa Inggris dengan istilah parts of speech.
Penulis menganalisis data untuk menentukan parts of speech yang paling dominan. Semua
data diambil dengan menganalisis seorang anak laki-laki Amerika berusia 7 tahun secara
langsung. Penelitian telah dilaksanakan dengan merekam percakapan antara seorang anak
laki-laki Amerika berusia 7 tahun bersama-sama dengan orangtuanya dan penulis. Panjang
video sekitar 10 menit untuk 1 kali yang direkam 2 kali. Ada sembilan jenis parts of speech
dalam bahasa Inggris, diantaranya adalah: Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb, Pronoun,
Preposition, Conjuction, Interjection, dan Article dan semua parts of speech tersebut terdapat
pada seorang anak laki-laki Amerika berusia 7 tahun. Masing-masing parts of speech
mempunyai beberapa fungsi dalam bahasa Inggris. Masing-masing jenis parts of speech
ditentukan oleh jenis kata tersebut. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif
deskriptif yaitu berupa penelitian dengan metode atau pendekatan penelitian kasus untuk
mendapatkan parts of speech yang paling dominan. Ada 98 kosakata-kosakata bahasa Inggris
dalam kosakata bahasa Inggris seorang anak laki-laki Amerika berusia 7 tahun, diantaranya
adalah 45,9% kata-kata benda, 16,3% kata-kata kerja, 12,2% kata-kata sifat, 08,1% kata-kata
keterangan, 06,1% kata-kata ganti, 04,0% kata-kata preposisi, 05,1% kata-kata penghubung,
02,0% kata-kata seru, dan 04,0% kata-kata artikel. Hal tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa
jenis kata paling banyak yang ditemukan dalam kosakata bahasa Inggris seorang anak
Amerika berusia 7 tahun adalah kata benda yakni sekitar 45,9% atau 45 kata-kata benda
tanpa pengulangan. Penulis mendaftarkan semua parts of speech yang ditemukan pada
seorang anak laki-laki Amerika berusia 7 tahun dalam sebuah tabel dan menghitung jumlah
data, kemudian menentukan parts of speech yang paling dominan.Penulis berharap kertas
karya ini bisa bermanfaat dan memberikan informasi yang berguna mengenai kosakata, jenisjenis kata dan fungsi jenis-jenis kata dalam bahasa Inggris.
