Pembuatan Karbon Aktif Dari Tempurung Kelapa (Coconut Shell) Dengan Proses Pengaktifan Kimia H3PO4 Menggunakan Microwave

ABSTRACT

Activated carbon made from coconut shell, because of the low ash content,
high carbon content, and natural pore structure, coconut shell is ideal for
generating high-quality activated carbon. An activated carbon with chemical
activation process using H3PO4 and microwave radiation. 100 g of coconut
shell H3PO4 impregnated using a solution of 100 ml with a concentration of
40%, 50%, and 60% for 4 hours at 85 °C. Then pyrolysis using microwave with
microwave power of 600, 800, and 1000 watts for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 25
minutes. The results obtained with the analysis of the amount of iodine
767.745 mg / g in the micro-wave power of 600 watts for 20 minutes at a
concentration of H3PO4, 60%. The infrared fourier transform (FTIR)
characteristic indicates the presence of the c = o (carbonyl) group indicating
the activated carbon content. It is also supported by Scanning Electron
Microscope (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS) which
shows the formation pores heterogeneous and carbon and oxide amounts on
activated carbon of 60.24% and 38.29%.
