Institutional Repository | Satya Wacana Christian University: The Implementation of Classroom Management Principles in Preschool

Abstract
This study examined how the teachers in preschool implement the
principles of classroom management when teaching English for young
learners in preschool. This study aimed to find the answer about how the
teachers implement the principles of classroom management to teach young
learners in preschool. The participants of the study were two teachers who
are teaching in one of the bilingual preschools in Salatiga. Those teachers
were teaching a class for 4-5 years old young learners and 5-6 years old
young learners. To record the data, the writer used video recordings and
observational notes. The result showed that the implementation of six
principles of classroom management helped teachers to create good
atmosphere during teaching learning process and encouraged the students to
follow teaching-learning process till the end of the class. However, once the
teachers did not apply one of the principles, the classes were difficult to be
controlled. The example can be seen when the students made noise because
teacher did not provide various activities and more materials. The result is
supported by a previous study which was conducted by Vale and Feunteun
(1995). Vale and Feunteu (1995) stated that once teachers did not apply the
principle of classroom management, it would be difficult for them to control
the class. This study can be very useful for English language teacher’s
students who are willing to be teachers for very young learners since the

result give suggestions about how to implement the classroom management
principles when teaching English for young learners. It is suggested that
further research should be more focus on classroom management strategies
for young learners with special needs because there must be a special
implementation of classroom management for students with special needs.
