ABSTRACT

  The aims of this study were: (1) to know the vocabulary mastery of the students to the grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Sampang in 2013/2014 Academic Year, (2) to know the translation ability of the students to the grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Sampang in 2013/2014 Academic Year, (3) to know whether there was any significant impact of vocabulary mastery on translation ability of the grade XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Sampang in 2013/2014 Academic Year or not. The study was conducted at the grade XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Sampang in 2013/2014 Academic Year.The population was the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sampang consisting of 240 students. The samples were 64 students. The data used was the students‟ results of vocabulary test and translation test. The results of the study revealed that (1) the average score of students‟ vocabulary test of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sampang was 81,7 and it was classified into excellent, (2) the average score of translation test of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sampang was 83,1 and it can be said that the criteria was excellent, (3) there was a significant impact of vocabulary mastery on

  students‟ translation ability because the value of r higher than the value of r-table, that is 0,832 > 0,242. Based on the results, it can be concluded that there was significant impact of vocabulary mastery on students‟ translation ability.
