ABSTRACT

ANALYSIS OF FACTORS CORRELATED WITH THE INCIDENCE OF DIARRHEA

  

IN EMERGENCY ROOM OF RSUD RUTENG

Descriptive Analysis

  Diarrhea is a condition that is characterized by frequent bowel movements ( > 3 t imes each day) along with decrease in the form of stool (greater looseness of stool), with or without blood a nd m ucus. D iarrhea i s caused b y va rious f actors i ncluding i nfection, m alabsorption, dietary and psychological factors. This study aimed to determine the factors correlated with the incidence of diarrhea in infants in emergency room of RSUD Ruteng.

  The design used in this research was descriptive analysis with cross-sectional approach. The population was the parents of children under five years old who suffered from diarrhea and visited emergency r oom o f RSUD Ru teng with 40 c hildren a s t he s ample. T his s tudy used purposive sampling technique.

  The i ndependent va riables w ere p erceived b enefit, p erceived b arrier, p erceived s elf- efficacy, act ivity-related a ffect, c ommitment, mo ther’s k nowledge, imme diate c ompeting demands a nd pr eferences, a nd s ituational f actors, w hile t he de pendent va riable w as t he incidence of diarrhea. The data were collected by questionnaires and medical records. This study used spearman’s rho analysis.

  The r esult s howed t hat knowledge w ith di arrhea ( p = 0.004) , environmental h ygiene with di arrhea ( p = 0.006) , a ction be nefit w ith diarrhea ( p = 0.009) , pe rceived ba rriers w ith diarrhea (p = 0.430), commitment with diarrhea (p = 0.006), desire to compete with diarrhea (p = 0.007), self-efficacy with diarrhea (p = 0.007), attitudes towards activities with diarrhea (p = 0.009).

  Suggestion was addressed to future reaserch which would be interseted in conducting such s tudy, but i n di fferent m ethdos, f or i nstance i n pa rents’ know ledge a nd a ttitude t owards oralite giving for children with diarrhea.
