1. Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the students will be able to:


have the foundation knowledge of translating and interpreting, including the
definitions, process, approaches, methods and procedures of translating as well
the types and modes of interpreting –consecutive, simultaneous-, note-taking
and practical techniques interpreting.



Have foundation experience and skills of translating general texts.



Render/interpret consecutively and simultaneously into target language
(English-Indonesian – Vice Versa).




Indentify acceptable translation and interpretation in terms of accuracy, clarity,
and naturalness.



Develop their language skills in the Source Language and the Target
Language.

2. Course Description:
The course provides the students with foundation knowledge of theoretical and
practical aspects of translating and interpreting. The theoretical aspects of translating
and interpreting such as definition, process, methods and procedures of translating
and interpreting will cater for the bases for further development of translating and
interpreting competence and performance. The practical aspects will focus on giving
students experience in translating/interpreting different kinds of general
texts/discourses from English into Indonesian.

Assignment: Translating different kinds of general English texts into
Indonesia and practicing different modes of interpreting

5. Evaluation
Students are required to meet the minimum attendance of 80% as the
requirement for the completion of the course. The evaluation will be based on the
following grading policy:
1. Participation in discussion = 10%
2. Assignment
= 15%
3. Mid term test
= 25%
4. Final test

= 50%
