AGAMA DAN PEMBENTUKAN REALITAS DALAM PANDANGAN PETER

ABSTRACT
This paper attempts to peer into the mind of Peter L.Ber ger in under standing the r eality of
r eligion. With the aim to obtain a descr iption of sociological and theor et ical fuller on how
r eligion plays a r ole in the for mation and pr eser vation of t he human wor ld cr eated for the
benefit of the for mation itself as being the "unfinished".
Fr om the r esults of the study found that r eligion is a means of legitimacy t o per pet uate
the human nomos var ied cr eated that can be r eceived fr om one gener ation to the next .
The author s r ecognize that the thought of Peter L. Ber ger is also not spar ed fr om the
r eductionist under standings of the r ealit y of r eligion, but would not it be r eductionist if we
can not accept that r eligion has contr ibuted gr eatly to the establishment and
maintenance of the cr eated wor ld humans in daily life -day which takes place
dialectically.

Peter Ludwig Berger lahir pada t anggal 17 M aret 1929. Ia adalah seorang sosiolog dan
t eolog Am erika. Pet er L. Berger dilahirkan di Vienna, Aust ria, kem udian dibesarkan di Wina
dan kemudian berimigrasi ke Am erika Serikat t ak lam a set elah Perang Dunia II. Pada 1949,
ia lulus dari Wagner College dengan gelar Bachelor of Art s. Ia m elanjut kan st udinya di New
School for Social Research di New York (M .A. pada 1950, Ph.D. pada 1952).Pada 1955 dan
1956 ia bekerja di Evangelische Akademie di Bad Boll, Jerm an. Dari 1956 hingga 1958 Berger
m enjadi profesor m uda di Universit as Nort h Carolina; dari 1958 hingga 1963 ia m enjadi
profesor m adya di Seminari Teologi Hart ford. Tonggak-t onggak kariernya yang berikutnya
adalah jabat an sebagai profesor di New School for Social Research , Universit as Rut gers, dan
Bost on College. Sejak 1981 Berger m enjadi Profesor Sosiologi dan Teologi di Universit as
Bost on, dan sejak 1985 juga menjadi direkt ur dari Inst it ut St udi Kebudayaan Ekonomi, yang
beberapa t ahun lalu berubah m enjadi Inst it ut Kebudayaan, Agam a, dan M asalah Dunia.
