Abstract
Ba ckg rou nd : St roke is a cerebrovascular disease which unt il now t he t hird leading
cause of deat h in t he world. St roke can cause physical disabilit y t o psychosocial
disfunct ion, such as cognit ive im pairm ent . This st udy aim ed t o analyze t he
relat ionship bet ween gender and cognit ive im pairm ent aft er ischem ic st roke fir st
at t ack wit h left hem isphere lesions.
M e t ho ds: This t ype of research is an observat ional analyt ic wit h cr oss- sect ional
approach. Sam ple of t his st udy were post ischem ic st roke pat ient s wit h a t ot al
sam ple of 60 people. Measuring inst rum ent used w as Mini Ment al St at e Exam inat ion
( MMSE) , and perform ed dat a analysis wit h m ult iple logist ic regression analysis.
Re sult s: Aft er t he st udy on a sam ple of 60 post - st roke pat ient s wit h a first
ischem ic at t ack left hem isphere lesions found post - st roke cognit ive im pair m ent in
m ale pat ient s am ount ed t o 46.7% , w hereas in fem ale pat ient s by 30% . The result s
of calculat ions using Binary Logist ic Regression Analysis obt ained OR = 0.14; CI
95% 0025 t o 0794 and p = 0026. From t hese dat a show ed st at ist ically significant
relat ionship bet ween t he gender w it h cognit ive im pair m ent aft er ischem ic st roke
first at t ack wit h left hem isphere lesions.
Co nclusio ns: There is a st at ist ically significant relat ionship bet ween gender t o
cognit ive im pairm ent on post - ischem ic st roke pat ient s. This conclusion is draw n
aft er cont rolling for t he effect s of confounding fact or s such as age, level of
educat ion and cardiovascular risk fact ors: diabet es m ellit us, hypert ension,
dyslipidem ia.
