OOD S ECURITY F OCUS ON P RODUCTIVITY Increase food crop production, diversification and quality for rural income Improve food security and nutrition  Inter‐ministerial National Food Security Committee NFSC revitalized  Additional 5,000 ha maize harvested  2,000 ha additional soya and mung beans cultivated  Food Security Information System FSIS revised  National Food Commodity Tracking System implemented NFCTS ‐ developed in 2009 for monthly reporting of importsexports and existing stocks in MTCI  Training for 27 water users associations WUA in the management and maintenance of irrigation schemes conducted – with demonstrated 25 involvement of women  First crop rice paddy of 40,000 ha and second crop 5,000 ha cultivated resulting in 130,000 tons of paddy  Bebui Irrigation Project construction completed  Technical guidelines developed for on‐farm storage for maize, rice and pulses incorporated into MAF Extension Strategy  Home gardens and nutrition education program expanded including 3,000 rural households at least 50 targeting women’s groups  National Food Security Policy revised and endorsed by NFSC  Food Security Information System FSIS implemented in four targeted districts MAF ‐  Food Security Unit  Crop Production Dept.  Extension Dept.  Livestock Dept.  Irrigation Dept.
