ASEAN Foreign Ministers Statement on Developments in the Korean Peninsula

ASEAN FOREIGN MINISTERS’ STATEMENT ON
DEVELOPMENTS IN THE KOREAN PENINSULA
15 MARCH 2018

The ASEAN Foreign Ministers welcome the recent announcement of plans
for the Inter-Korean Summit and the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump
and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong Un in the near
future, as well as efforts by the Republic of Korea and all concerned parties to reduce
tensions and work towards a peaceful resolution of the situation on the Korean
Peninsula. The ASEAN Foreign Ministers also note the DPRK’s reported commitment
to denuclearisation and its pledge to refrain from further nuclear and missile tests
during this period. The ASEAN Foreign Ministers reiterate their support for the
complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula in a
peaceful manner and express hope for a peaceful and amicable resolution to the issue.
