Abstrak

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses regulasi emosi personil militer Tentara
Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Darat (TNI-AD) yang tergabung dalam Batalyon Artileri
Medan (Yon Armed) 12 Ngawi. Partisipan penelitian merupakan tiga orang personil Yon
Armed 12 Ngawi, berjenis kelamin pria, masing-masing berusia 42 tahun, 26 tahun dan 48
tahun dan minimal satu kali sudah pernah diikutsertakan dalam penugasan pengamanan
daerah rawan (pamrahwan). Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan
wawancara, observasi dan telaah beberapa dokumen terkait. Pedoman wawancara dan
indikator proses regulasi emosi disusun berdasarkan teori proses pembentukan emosi serta
jenis regulasi emosi yang dikemukakan oleh Gross dan Thompson (2007) serta faktor stres
personil militer yang dicatat oleh Harms et al. (2013) dan Kensing (2014). Ketiga partisipan
mengembangkan strategi regulasi emosi seleksi situasi, modifikasi situasi, penyebaran atensi
distraksi dan konsentrasi, reappraisal dan modulasi respons suppression maupun fisik
disesuaikan dengan tujuan dan konteks situasi stressful yang dihadapi dalam domain
penugasan pamrahwan, latihan tempur dan rutinitas harian. Mengenali emosi dan
mengembangkan strategi regulasi emosi merupakan ketrampilan yang penting untuk dimiliki
dan dapat dikembangkan sehingga personil militer dapat memberikan performa terbaik dalam
menyelesaikan tugas dan mengatasi situasi stressful.

Abstract

This research has been conducted to examine Artillery Battalion (Yon Armed) 12 Nga wi

soldiers’ emotion regulation process in varied stressful situations. Three male Indonesian
Army soldiers of that battalion have been involved to be participants. They were 42 years old,
26 years old and 48 years old. They have been in combat deployment or securing conflict
region operation at least once. This research used qualitative method, data were collected by
using depth interview, direct observation and analysis of relevant documents or materials.
The interview guide and emotion regulation indicators were arranged according to Gross

and Thompson’s (2007) emotion formation and emotion regulation theory and explanations
of military member’s stress factors by Harms et al. (2013) and Kensing (2014). Results
indicated that all of the participants developed all of the emotion regulation strategies, those
strategy were situation selection, situation modification, attention development (distraction
and consentration), reappraisal and response modulation (suppression and physically).
Participants developed emotion regulation strategy according to their own goals in the

stressful situation’s contexts when they were deployed in conflict region, battle simulation
and daily routinity at the headquarter. The results showed that is important for military

members to own skill in understanding emotion condition and knowing how to do emotion
regulation so that they can perform excellently in completing military task and overcome
various stressful situations in daily life.
