Non Observance Maxims And Particuralized Conversational Implicature In Alice Adventure In Wonderland : A Pragmatic Study.
ABSTRACT
This thesis is entitled “Non Observance Maxims and Particularized Conversational
Implicature”. The objective of this research focuses on the types of the non observance
maxims, the particularized conversational implicature and the reasons influencing the employ
of non observance maxims in ‘Alice Adventure in Wonderland’. The research uses
Pragmatics approach, particularly, the non observance maxims and Particularized
Conversational Implicature. The data were obtained from “Alice Adventure in Wonderland”
novel. The collected data were transferred into the data card and classified based on five non
observance maxims. The findings of twenty seven data were analyzed and described using
the theory of Pragmatics by Yule (1996) and by Thomas (1995). The theory about Non
observance maxims is by Thomas (1995). The next theory is Implicature by May (2001) and
Grundy (2000). The results of the research show the following; First, there are five types of
non observance maxims used by the characters in the conversation namely Opting out a
maxim, Infringing a maxim, Suspending a maxim, Flouting a maxim and Violating a maxim.
Secondly, there are various inferred meaning that implicitly convey by the speaker in having
conversation. Thirdly, there are various possible reason influencing the employment of non
observance maxims which related to the context of situation.
ABSTRAK
Tesis ini berjudul "Non Observance Maxims and Particularized Conversational
Implicature”.
Adventure in Wonderland’. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan Pragmatik, khususnya,
prinsip-prinsip percakapan implikatur.
yang digunakan oleh karakter dalam percakapan yaitu opting out a maxim, infringing a
maxim, suspending a maxim, flouting a maxim dan violating a maxim.
