CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

A. Background
Indonesia is an archipelago country. It consists of etnicgroups, traditions,
kinds of religion, and culture. It can become tourism industry for Indonesia. In
Indonesia further there are still a lot of places, which become tourism industry.
Tourism industry has activities, which have close relationship with hotel. Hotel is
one important part in the tourism industry and it can increase the country income.
This condition supports this element of tourism industry to maximize the
quality of its product. Tourism industry is a type of industry that deals with
hospitality especially service as the main product. To raise the quality of tourism
product means to raise the quality of the service. The efforts to raise the tourism
industry income must be made by the industry themselves.
Sahid Kusuma Prince Hotel is one of four-star hotels in Solo, which has
good and professional services. It is only one traditional type of hotel and palace like hotel in Solo. This hotel shows to us about its traditional Javanese palace
building and atmosphere.
Food and beverage is one of department in hotel. It is one of income sources
for Sahid Kusuma Prince Hotel because it works in selling Food and Beverage in
the hotel. Welcoming the guest, offering foods and beverages, waiting for guest
and giving them good service are important duties of food and beverage service

staffs. Guest satisfaction is a great priority so they must be served well.

Bar holds an important rule in Food and Beverage Department. Bar is
supported with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage selling. Bar attracts guests to
enjoy the music and bartender has duties to offer snack and beverage to guest.
This activity was going on everyday.
This report is written to explain the operation of Madugondo Bar in Sahid
Kusuma Prince Hotel and to know the equipment and services in Madugondo Bar
and also the duties and responsibilities of Madugondo Bar employees. The writer
chooses Sahid Kusuma Hotel because the writer is interested in the tradition of
Javanese atmosphere.

B. Objectives
The objectives of this writing are:
1. To describe the operation of Madugondo Bar Sahid Kusuma Hotel Solo.
2. To describe the duties, responsibilities, equipment and services of Madugondo
Bar employees of Sahid Kusuma Hotel Solo.
