Decimals & Fractions, Ratio & Proportion, Operations, Expressions, Equations, and
Word Problems. Algebra Readiness provides a balance between basic skills,
conceptual understanding and problem solving – all support by mathematical reasoning.
Additional topics may be included in preparation for the California Assessment of
Student Performance and Progress.

TEXTBOOK MANAGEMENT
There is no assigned textbook for this class. However, you will be using
Carnegie Learning Program via Laptop as your primary learning resource.
Bridge to Algebra: Carnegie Learning, 2016 – jckimball hs-95377
You are responsible for your assigned laptop in case of damage, lost or theft.
 Your laptop will stay in my classroom, but make sure your laptop is charging and
locked at the end of each day.
 Your notebook will be extremely important for note taking and record keeping.
 You will be assigned supplemental worksheets throughout the course.
Keep the worksheet with you until the end of the unit.

ATTENDANCE
Attendance is very important.

Students are expected to be in their seats, ready to work, when the bell rings.
Tardies are cumulative. This means that the attendance office will use the attendance
system to count all tardies for each student. For example, if you have one tardy in
periods 3, 4 and 5, that will count as 3 tardies.
Tardy counts will be by quarter.
The attendance office will do the following, depending upon how many total tardies
you have:
# OF TARDIES
CONSEQUENCES
1 to 4 Tardy
Auto Dialer will call home and notify.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY
All work submitted by students should be a true reflection of their effort and ability.
Cheating includes the unauthorized use or sharing of tests, quizzes, and homework
assignments as well as the use of electronic devices, aid of other students, and
unauthorized notes during any assessments.
1st Offense) AUTOMATIC 0% on that assessment
2nd Offense) AUTOMATIC referral to the Principal for a FORMAL HEARING

MAKE-UP & LATE WORK:
 Make-up work is allowed for “excused absentees” and “suspenstees” ONLY.
You must make-up your unit tests, module quizzes, and homework assignments
on your own time – before school, break, lunch, or after school.
 It is your own responsibility to remind yourself to make-up the work, this
includes the Skill Mastery, Tests, Homework Assignments,
Lesson Notes, and Projects. Make sure you ask teachers for any
missing work you missed during your absence(s).
 Late work is ONLY accepted up until 1 week before the end of the quarter it
was assigned.

CLASSWORK (25%)
 Classwork will be assigned daily, then checked & stamped daily.
Without the stamp on the homework assignment, it will be counted as “late.”
 “Late” work will only count as 50% of the original earned score for most
students. The ONLY exception to this is for “excused absentees.”
 You will be assigned work from supplemental worksheets. You need to keep all
of these worksheets with you until the day of a test.
 Questions on the homework worksheet will also be answered on the following

day.
 You MUST show work and explanation as required to receive any credit, no
exceptions. All work must be completed neatly in pencil with great effort.
 All assigned works are COLLECTED on the day of the Unit Test.
 The purpose for assigning homework is to give students the opportunity to
practice skills, to prepare them for a new topic, and to elaborate on introduced
material. For more information, please refer to Homework Board Policy 6154.
MATH PROJECTS (25%)
 The goal of math projects is to give students a chance to share with their
classmates what they have learned based on their research on the given topic.
These projects can be in group-format or by individual-format.
ONLINE MASTERY LESSONS (10%)
Online lesson mastery within the Carnegie Learning program are assigned once a
week and checked weekly on Fridays. You will most likely work on Carnegie Learning
program on Mondays and Friday. Each mastery lessons composes of exercise problems
and mastery skills.
 Based on the Common Core Mathematical Standards
 Achieved by passing the appropriate exercises problems and mastery skills.
 Found on “online.carnegielearning.com”
 Each student will have an opportunity to ask questions during Carnegie Learning

days.
You must work on mastery lessons during Carnegie Learning days, usually Mondays
and Fridays, with an internet-capable device. The breakdown of the weekly mastery
lesson progress could vary due to students’ needs or the length of the week.
Grade Breakdown for Weekly Online Lesson Progress
A
1 Mastery Lesson
F
0 Mastery Lesson
In the case that you are absent during these Carnegie Learning days, then it is your
own responsibility to remind yourself to make-up the mastery lessons you missed from
class. You have from beginning of the week to the end of the week (Fridays) to finish
your Online Skills Mastery.

LESSON NOTES (10%)
Lesson notes are helpful to most students, because it helps to be able to recall
back to the lesson after the class is over.
 Students are required to bring their notebook to class to take notes.
 I will check student’s class notes about once every quarter.
 Lesson Notes will be graded based on completeness and accuracy.

TA’s: You are expected to ask me for any work that needs to be completed each day.
You are also required to attend 70% of the time to receive a passing grade
PARTICIPATION (10%)
The Participation Grade will be based on students’ participation in class
through:
(a) Lesson notes
(b) Class discussions (this includes asking questions on Homework)
(c) Classwork
(d) Group works
(e) Come to class prepared with notebook, workbook, and pencil.
(f) Attentive in class (Bathroom usage of NO MORE than twice per quarter,
stay in your own seat, and following classroom procedures).
Student participation in class sessions is vital to the success in the course. Each
student's participation will be evaluated and graded by the teacher through student’s
role in class participation (making original, cogent, and thoughtful remarks),
demonstrates good preparation for class, and making good progress in doing class
works.
Typically, students can earn up to 2 participation points each day that can
cumulate up to 86 to 88 points per quarter. The ONLY exception to this is for “excused

absentees.” For special cases like these, I will “exempt” these students from being
graded on “participation grade” on the applicable days.
However, failure to fully participate in my class in any particular day could
result in a “0” or “1” participation point for that day. Participation points CANNOT be
earned back once it is lost!

FINAL EXAMINATION (20% of the semester grade)
Final exams are extremely important. They give an overview of what the
students truly learned and retained at the end of each semester.
Students will be assessed on what they have learned after every semester.
The Final Exam will take place at the end of semester 1 and semester 2.

ELECTRONICS
Cell phones, music listening devices, video games, personal laptops/tablets, and
video games are not permitted in class.
Please have your phone turned off or silenced during class.
All electronics mentioned above must be out of sight or it will be
IMMEDIATELY CONFISCATED & possibly accompany by a detention.

Please complete and sign this form and return ONLY the bottom portion of this page.
