INTRODUCTION - GATE
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an All India examination
l
administered and conducted by the the seven Indian Institutes of Technology
and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, on behalf of the National
Coordinating
Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human
Resource Development, Government of India.
l
The Online GATE examination will be conducted in January and the Offline
GATE examination will be conducted on the second Sunday of February.
l
Admission to all Post Graduate Programmes with MHRD and other Government
Scholarship/Assistantship in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science at
Engineering Colleges/ Institutes in India are open only to those who qualify
through GATE.
l
More importantly,
GATE
percentile
score
is
valid
for Doctorate
programmes in relevant branches of Science.
l
GATE qualified candidates in the engineering disciplines are also eligible for the
award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories.
l
GATE percentile score is valid for CEED programmes at IIT Kanpur & IISc
Bangalore.
l
As a matter of practice, industries have also started giving preference to good
GATE percentile score card holders for employment purposes.

Some Govt. Organizations / PSUs prescribe GATE qualification as a

ELIGIBILITY - GATE
QUALIFYING DEGREE FOR GATE :
a) Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy and those
who are in the final year of such programmes.
b) Master's degree holders in any branch of Science /Mathematics / Statistics/
Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such
programmes.
c) Candidates in the 2nd year or higher year of the Post B.Sc. Four Year Integrated
Master's Degree programme in Engineering/ Technology or in the fourth or higher
year of Five year Integrated Master's degree and Dual Degree Programmes in
Engineering/Technology.
d) Candidates with professional qualifications like AMIE by ICE(I), AME by ICE(I) by
examination (recognised by UPSC/ AICTE as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech for
purpose of employment) and those who have completed Section A or equivalent of
such professional courses.

STRUCTURE OF GATE
1.
All candidates of GATE will appear in a single paper of 3 hrs duration consisting
of 65 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks.
Each GATE paper shall have a common General Aptitude (GA) component carrying
15 marks.

Candidates appearing in XE and XL papers are required to answer THREE sections
apart from the General Aptitude questions (GA), one compulsory as mentioned above
and two others of candidate's choice out of the sections mentioned against the
respective papers.

STRUCTURE OF GATE
Candidates qualified in XE or XL papers are required to be interviewed by
the admitting institute to assess their suitability for a particular programme.
The choice of the paper is the responsibility of the candidate. However, some
guidelines are suggested below:
a) Candidates are expected to appear in the paper appropriate to the discipline
of their qualifying degree. However the candidate is free to choose any paper
according to his/her admission plan, keeping in mind the eligibility criteria of the
institutions in which they wish to seek admission.
b) Candidates studying in the fourth year of Five Year Integrated M.Tech/ Dual
Degree programmes are treated at par with those in the final year of Four Year
B.E./ B.Tech programme and are expected to appear in the paper appropriate to
the discipline of their qualifying degree.
c) At present, students in the Integrated Master's Degree and Dual Degree
programmes in Engineering/ Technology are eligible to appear in GATE in order to
qualify for the postgraduate scholarship in their own institutions only. They are
not eligible for admission to a fresh M.E./ M.Tech. programme.
GATE SCORE
GATE score card is valid for two years only from the date of announcement of GATE
result.

CLEAR YOUR DOUBTS : Students can write to us their queries while referring our
course material.
The queries should pertain to the examination syllabus. In case of numerical problems,
the student's working sheets should also be enclosed.
Students should mention the volume number of our course material/book from which the
doubt is taken alongwith the problem & page no. for our easy reference. Students must
mention the Roll No. while sending their doubt letters to us.
Our professors will attend to the queries and provide explanations. While soliciting
replies, students should mention "Clear Your Doubts - ELITE- GATE 2014" on the cover
of the letter.
NOTE : Letters under this scheme should reach us atleast one and half month
before the examination. Also, other types of correspondence should not be
combined with these letters.
Communication regarding change of address, will not be accepted over phone. It
has to be made through letter / E-mail.
Mailing Schedule : Despatch of course materials will begin within 15 days of taking
admission and the course will be completed by December 2013 / January 2014.

GATE-QUESTION BANK
The 2014 ELITE-GATE Question Bank will comprise of Solutions / Answers / Hints of
selected questions from previous TWENTY THREE GATE PAPERS, 1990-2012.
In case of Production & Industrial Engineering, the Question Bank will comprise of 19901994 & 2001-2012 PI papers and 1995-2000 ME papers since PI was a part of ME.
NOTE : In case of Botany, Zoology in Xl group and Biotechnology, there will be only Course
Material and no Question Bank for GATE 2014.
The Question Bank will be provided in 5 volumes.
There will be 5 volumes on General Aptitude (GA).
This Question Bank (23 years Question Papers with answers / solutions) gives
you a wide range of Questions with answers / solutions / hints on all topics of the
syllabus of your subject.
The important point to be noted is that these questions and answers will help to
improve your basics thoroughly.
Note : The material for General Aptitude will be given to All students who enrol for
Question Bank & Test Series or Course with Question Bank & Test Series or Course
without Question Bank (Including XE and XL group).

will be despatched in August, 2013
Students are free to take admission for the complete Course with Question Bank or
only Course (without Question Bank) or only Question Bank.

ELITE-GATE TEST SERIES (ETS) 2014
Apart from the course material and Question Bank, there will be a special
Test Series for Gate. This will comprise of 5 Test Papers which will be similar
to the actual Gate Paper.
Questions for this Test Series will be taken from earlier Gate Papers. Students
are expected to solve these papers within the stipulated time sincerely.
5 Sealed Answers / Hits / Solutions will be despatched along with these Test
Papers. You can check your answers after you finish solving the papers. This will
give you ample practice and you will gain confidence for attempting the GATE.
Note : There will be no Test Series in case of Botany, Zoology in XL group and
Biotechnology.
Test Series (ETS) : The 5 Test Papers with Sealed Solutions will be
despatched towards the end of the course.
Note : The Test Series is provided to students who join for Question Bank /

4. In case you do not have online transfer facility at your end, you can visit any bank

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an All India examination

administered and conducted by the the seven Indian Institutes of Technology
and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, on behalf of the National
Coordinating
Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human
Resource Development, Government of India.

The Online GATE examination will be conducted in January and the Offline
GATE examination will be conducted on the second Sunday of February.
l
Admission to all Post Graduate Programmes with MHRD and other Government
Scholarship/Assistantship in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science at
Engineering Colleges/ Institutes in India are open only to those who qualify
through GATE.

programmes in relevant branches of Science.

GATE qualified candidates in the engineering disciplines are also eligible for the

ELIGIBILITY - GATE
QUALIFYING DEGREE FOR GATE :
a) Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy and those
who are in the final year of such programmes.
b) Master's degree holders in any branch of Science /Mathematics / Statistics/
Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such
programmes.
c) Candidates in the 2nd year or higher year of the Post B.Sc. Four Year Integrated
Master's Degree programme in Engineering/ Technology or in the fourth or higher
year of Five year Integrated Master's degree and Dual Degree Programmes in
Engineering/Technology.
d) Candidates with professional qualifications like AMIE by ICE(I), AME by ICE(I) by
examination (recognised by UPSC/ AICTE as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech for
purpose of employment) and those who have completed Section A or equivalent of
such professional courses.

STRUCTURE OF GATE
Candidates qualified in XE or XL papers are required to be interviewed by
the admitting institute to assess their suitability for a particular programme.
The choice of the paper is the responsibility of the candidate. However, some
guidelines are suggested below:
a) Candidates are expected to appear in the paper appropriate to the discipline
of their qualifying degree. However the candidate is free to choose any paper
according to his/her admission plan, keeping in mind the eligibility criteria of the
institutions in which they wish to seek admission.
b) Candidates studying in the fourth year of Five Year Integrated M.Tech/ Dual
Degree programmes are treated at par with those in the final year of Four Year
B.E./ B.Tech programme and are expected to appear in the paper appropriate to
the discipline of their qualifying degree.
c) At present, students in the Integrated Master's Degree and Dual Degree
programmes in Engineering/ Technology are eligible to appear in GATE in order to
qualify for the postgraduate scholarship in their own institutions only. They are
not eligible for admission to a fresh M.E./ M.Tech. programme.

The 2014 ELITE-GATE Question Bank will comprise of Solutions / Answers / Hints of
selected questions from previous TWENTY THREE GATE PAPERS, 1990-2012.
In case of Production & Industrial Engineering, the Question Bank will comprise of 19901994 & 2001-2012 PI papers and 1995-2000 ME papers since PI was a part of ME.
NOTE : In case of Botany, Zoology in Xl group and Biotechnology, there will be only Course
Material and no Question Bank for GATE 2014.
The Question Bank will be provided in 5 volumes.
There will be 5 volumes on General Aptitude (GA).
This Question Bank (23 years Question Papers with answers / solutions) gives
you a wide range of Questions with answers / solutions / hints on all topics of the
syllabus of your subject.
The important point to be noted is that these questions and answers will help to
