ABSTRACT
The objectives of the study is to describe and to analyze the derivational
forms of noun in “A Child Called „It‟ Novel by Dave Pelzer. The writer tried to
answer the problem of the study „what are the derivational forms of noun used in a
novel entitled “A Child Called „It‟ written by Dave Pelzer?.
This study is aqualitative research by using content analysis design. The
technique of data collecting in the study was documentation. In analyzing the
data, the writer used some procedures. They were: 1) Listing the word of
derivational form of noun in a novel entitled “A Child Called „It‟ written by Dave
Pelzer. 2) Finding out the words of derivational form of noun in a novel entitled
“A Child Called „It‟ written by Dave Pelzer. 3) Describing the derivational form
of noun in a novel entitled “A Child Called „It‟ written by Dave Pelzer. 4)
Classifying the bases of roots in a novel entitled “A Child Called „It‟ written by
Dave Pelzer. The writer used the data endorsement in acquiring the data, the
writer used triangulation. The triangulation used was theory triangulation which
involved consideration of how the phenomenon under study might be explained
by multiple theories.

Derivational form of noun was derivational morphemes that created new
word to form of noun. Based on result of the study, there were 167 word which
attached derivational form of noun. In noun from verb, there were suffixes (9 ment, 18 –ing, 34 –ion, 9 –er, 3 –ance, 7 –or, 1 –y, 2 –al, and prefixes (1 en- and 1
dis-). The suffixes of this part were domained by –ing and the smallest amount of
suffixe was –y. In noun from adjective, there were suffixes (10 –ce, 11 –th, 16 –
ness, 10 –ion, 1 –ity, and 1 -er). The suffixes of this part were domained by –ness
and the smallest amount were -ity and –er. In noun from noun, there were suffixes
( 5 –er, 4 –ment, 1 –al, and 1 –ion). The suffixes of this part were domained by –
er and the smallest amount were –al and –ion. Where, there are 87 verbs (52%),
46 adjectives (28%) and 34 nouns (20%). It shows that the part of word classes of
the bases or roots in A Child Called „It‟ by Dave Pelzer is mostly presented in
verb.

PROSES PEMBENTUKAN KATA DARI KATA BENDA DALAM
SEBUAH NOVEL YANG BERJUDUL “A CHILD CALLED IT” KARYA
DAVE PELZER

ABSTRAK

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menjelaskan dan menganalisis proses
pembentukan kata dari kata benda dalam sebuah novel yang berjudul “ A Child
Called It” karya Dave Pelzer. Objek dari penelitian ini adalah proses pembentukan
kata dari kata benda. Proses pembentukan kata dari kata benda yang ditemukan
didalam novel yang berjudul “A Child Called It”. Penulis mencoba untuk
menjawab permasalahan dari penelitian ini yakni “ apa saja proses pembentukan
kata benda yang ditemukan dalam novel yang berjudul “A Child Called „It‟ karya
Dave Pelzer?
Penelitian ini termasuk kedalam jenis penelitian dari tipe analisis isi.
Teknik yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah dokumentasi. Dalam
menganalisis data, penulis menggunakan beberapa prosedur. Mereka adalah: 1)
membuat daftar dari kata yang termasuk dalam proses pembentukan kata dari
kata benda yang ada dalam novel ““A Child Called It” karya Dave Pelzer. 2)
menemukan kata yang termasuk dalam proses pembentukan kata dari kata benda
yang ada dalam novel “A Child Called It” karya Dave Pelzer. 3) menjabarkan
proses pembentukan kata dari kata benda yang ada dalam novel “A Child Called
It” karya Dave Pelzer. 4) mengklasifikasikan dasar kata didalam novel yang
berjudul “A Child Called It” karya Dave Pelzer. Penulis menggunakan
pengabsahan data dalam memperoleh data yakni triangulasi, triangulasi yang
digunakan adalah teori yang meliputi perhatian dari bagaimana sebuah fenomena
atas penelitian yang mungkin bisa dijelaskan dengan banyak teori.
Proses pembentukan kata dari kata benda adalah proses pembentukan kata
yang membuat kata baru kedalam bentuk kata benda. Berdasarkan hasil
penelitian. Dari kata kerja, terdapat akhiran-akhiran (9 -ment, 18 –ing, 34 –ion, 9
–er, 3 –ance, 7 –or, 1 –y, 2 –al, dan awalan (1 en- and 1 dis-). Akhiran dari bagian
ini didominasi oleh akhiran –ing dan yang paling sedikit adalah akhiran –y. Dari
kata sifat, terdapat akhiran-akhiran (10 –ce, 11 –th, 16 –ness, 10 –ion, 1 –ity, and
1 -er). Akhiran pada bagian ini didominasi oleh akhiran –ness dan yang paling
sedikit adalah akhiran –ity dan –er. Dari kata benda, terdapat akhiran-akhiran (5 –
er, 4 –ment, 1 –al, and 1 –ion). Akhiran dari bagian ini didominasi oleh akhiran –
er dan yang paling sedikit adalah akhiran –al dan –ion. Terdapat 108 kata yang
termasuk dalam proses pembentukan kata dari kata benda. Dimana, terdapat 87
kata kerja atau sekitar 52%, 46 kata sifat atau sekitar 28% dan kata 34 kata benda

atau sekitar 20%. Ini menunjukkan bahwa bagian dari kelas kata dari akar sebuah
kata yang terdapat dalam novel “A Child Called It” karya Dave Pelzer mayoritas
terdapat didalam kata kerja.
