CHAPTER IV
CONCLUSION

This research paper is aimed to find the theme of The Family from One
End Street through the Mrs. Ruggles’s external conflicts.
Based on the analysis and interpretations which are supported by some
theoritial background, the writer find out that :
1. The most external conflict are experienced by Mrs. Ruggles, the main
character in The Family from One End Street. First, she has conflict
with her husband, Mr. Ruggles. Their conflict is about the name for
their twins, they have different opinion about the name. She has more
dominant than her husband, she has more authority to take control her
husband.
Second, she faced conflict with her children, Lily Rose. The conflict is
about the different idea between Mrs. Ruggles and Lily Rose. Mrs.
ruggles thinks

that she has power to take control her children.

Although her children wants to help, Mrs. Ruggles still used her power
to give punishment to her children.

The third one is Mrs. Ruggles has conflict with Kate, her children.
Their conflict is about different ideas about Kate’s school dress. Mrs.

Ruggles thought that she has an authority to take control her children.
Every words that she said to her children, the children have to follow
it.
The last conflict happen between Mrs. Ruggles and Mrs. Smith, her
friend also her neighbour. Mrs. Smith wants to see that Mrs. Ruggles is
all right and give comment and opinion to Mrs. Ruggles. Besides, Mrs.
Ruggles doesn’t like that anyone else get nosy in her own business.
2. From those external conflicts experienced by Mrs. Ruggles, the writer
find clues to conclude the theme. The theme found is a superior and
dominant working mother has power to take control of her family and
her relation in society.
