Indonesia Higher Education Network is the first NREN in Indonesia
Indonesia Higher Education Network is the first NREN in Indonesia.Initiatives by the
Directorate of Higher Education , Department of National Education and itt is start on 2006 and
with 83 Universities connected to the network. In 2007 , the number of Inherent members
become 200 universities in Indonesia from Banda Aceh (Sumatra) through University
Cendrawasih in Papu (west Papua). The network using several technologies such as fiber optics ,
microwave , wireless connection and satellite connection. The backbone capacity for java area is
45 mbps (155 mbps) , 8 mbps for Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi , Bali ,Nusa Tenggara island
and 2 mbps for other island like Maluku and Papua. The IP Address start using Ipv6 and The
routing protocol using OSPF and BGP. The International link to other NREN using TEIN2 (3)
Network.
The application running on Inherent were video conference , tele-teaching , remote learning ,
digital library network , telemedicine application, grid computing infrastructure and earth
sciences application (weather and climate prediction).The network is became the test bed
network for several application such as VoIP , web-cache and etc. The inherent network mostly
used for the education purpose such as tele-learning and tele-teaching.
