ABSTRACT

The object of the research is a movie entitled Red. The major problem of her study is how is search for existence of Frank Moses in Red movie directed by Robert Schwentke based on Existentialist approach. Therefore, the study analyzes the play in term of it structural elements of the play and based on the existentialist approach. These studies belong to qualitative study. The writer uses two data sources: they are primary data sources and secondary data sources. The primary data source is the movie. Meanwhile, the secondary data are taken from several references such as essays, articles, commentaries, website about the movie, reader’s review, and others even about the author or existentialist material to support the subject matter. The method of the data collection is library research by collecting both primary and secondary data. The technique of data analysis is descriptive analysis based on Existentialist approach. The study comes to the following conclusions. First, based on the structural analysis of each element, it shows that the character and characterization, casting, plot, setting, point of view, theme, mise en scene, cinematography, sounds and editing related to each other and form the unity into good quality of a movie. Second, based on the existentialist analysis included of being, existence before essence, anxiety, freedom to choose, transcendence of ego, nothingness, and the last is Frank’s searching for existence not only in his life but also for his future and everyone he loved.

I. INTRODUCTION

Searching for existence is actually one of human efforts in building his meaning of life. Someone can find the meaning of life when he thinks that he manages to actualize his idealism. By actualizing his idealism, man can find his identity. In the scope of the society, then his existence will be built. The existence of a man can be seen from two sides. From the outside view, a man appears to be just another natural creature while from the inside view, he is an entirely independent universe, the center of his own infinity. Man is equal, but every human has his own world existentially, which differ him from other individual. This only understandable in the term of individual’s existence, his particular

(4)

experience of life. Thus, to understand a man, somebody cannot merely appreciate him from his physical appearance.

In etymology concept the word "existence" comes from the Latin word existere means "to appear", "to arise", "to become", or "to be", but literally, it means "to stand out". Everyone has their own existence, the existence is as the sigh of his purpose, the purpose is what he wants to become. The search for existence also appears in the major character of Red movie directed by Robert Schwentke.

Red is a 2010 American action comedy film inspired by the three-issue comic book series of the same name created by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner, and published by the DC Comics imprint Homage. The film stars Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren, and Karl Urban with Robert Schwentke directing a screenplay by Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber. The screenplay of this movie is based on the cult D.C comics graphic novels written by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner with the same title. Warren Ellis was born on 16 February 1968, he is an English author of comics, novel and television, who is well-known for socio-cultural commentary, both through his online presence and through his writing, which covers transhumanist themes (most notably nanotechnology, cryonics, mind transfer, and human enhancement). He is a resident of Southend-on-Sea, England.

On June 12, 2008, the front page of The Hollywood Reporter announced that Summit Entertainment had optioned Red (2003), Ellis's thriller with artist Cully Hamner, as a feature film. White out screen writers Eric and Jon Hoeber wrote the adaptation, directed by Robert Schwentke of The Time Traveler's Wife and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian of Transformers. Principal photography began in January 2010 in Toronto and Louisiana with stars Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman.

The first quarter of 2009 saw the release of G.I. Joe: Resolute, a series of webisodes written by Warren Ellis and later released on DVD in December. He worked with D'Israeli again in 2010-2011 for a one-off comic, SVK, to be published by BERG, a London consultancy firm. It uses a UV torch to reveal the thoughts of the characters in the story.

Red is not a popular novel. Thus, Warren Ellis warned in a blog post dated December 8, 2009 — not long before the movie version of his book RED would begin shooting — Ellis talked about how the book and the movie were destined to be distant cousins. He explained that if he were to film 66 pages of comic’s, he might just get about 40 minutes of film out of the comic’s. Ellis says that 40 minutes is not enough to be a feature film.

Ellis wants to incorporate screenwriters Jon and Erich Hoeber, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and director Robert Schwentke, a creative team that set out to turn Ellis’ beloved 66-page into an action vehicle for star Bruce Willis. As he found out on a visit to the set of Red last month, it is indeed very different. And while fans of the book would be called to instant alarm by the word “change,” Ellis set out to give the process a chance. And after thirty minutes spent with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, he has got a pretty good idea of what this new, cinematic version of Red will look like. And he got a feeling that the audience

(5)

will be pleasantly surprised. So he makes outline some of the book-to-screen changes for the ausience and the comics lovers, based on the conversation that he shared with di Bonaventura and several other journalists.

The movie is produced by Summit Entertainments, and distributed by Di Bonaventura Pictures and DC Comics. This movie has 115 minutes duration. It was first release in 1507 Magazines Street, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA at 15 October 2010 and received positively by audiences and also obtained good rating from movie critics.

Red (2010) is directed by Robert Schwentke. Schwentke was born on 1968. He is a German film director best known for the films Tattoo (2002) and Flightplan(2005). In addition of this film, he is well known for his work on movie such as Eierdiebe (2003), The Time Traveler's Wife (2009) Red (2010), and R.I.P.D. (2013).

The movie estimated budget is $58.000.000 and gain $21.761.408 in opening weekend in USA at 17 October 2010. This movie describes a retired old man. He is retired, bored and lonely living off his government pension in a nondescript suburb in an equally nondescript house. Red (2010) combines drama romantic, action, and comedy in one movie. This film shows the rise of the spirit of Frank Moses lived in the lonely old days because of the presence of a woman who work in the government pension processing center. He is also a retired CIA operative, hunted by his own people, and reunites his old team for one last mission: save themselves from the people who would kill him. The lesson taught by this movie is respected an old people and use the best for your times. The title is derived from the designation of the status of agent Frank Moses (Bruce Willis), meaning "Retired, Extremely Dangerous"

This films tells about Frank Moses (Bruce Willis), a former black-ops CIA agent, is retired and living a quiet life in Cleveland, Ohio. However, he begins to feel lonely and often chats on the phone with Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker), a customer service agent working for Frank's pension office in Kansas City. He creates opportunities to talk to her by tearing up his pension checks and calling her to say they had never arrived.

His life is disrupted when a hit squad raids his house in the middle of the night. Frank kills the assassins and, knowing they would have tapped his phone, goes to Kansas City to protect Sarah. She becomes Frank's reluctant companion while he tries to find out who is trying to kill him, and track down his old black ops team for help. Meanwhile, CIA agent William Cooper (Karl Urban) is assigned to hunt and kill Frank.

Frank kidnaps Sarah, keeping her tied up and gagged in his car and then at the hotel, first goes to New Orleans to find his mentor Joe Matheson (Morgan Freeman), currently living in a retirement community and terminally ill, who tells him that the hit squad Frank killed were also responsible for the murder of a New York Times reporter. While avoiding Cooper, Frank and Sarah find clues left behind by the deceased reporter, which leads them to a hit list. They then track down Marvin Boggs (John Malkovich), also a former black ops agent and a paranoid conspiracy theorist, to provide more information. Marvin tells them that the names on the list are all connected to a 1981 secret mission in Guatemala in

(6)

which Frank and Marvin participated, and that one person, Gabriel Singer (James Remar), is still alive. The trio tracks down Singer, who tells them that the mission involved extracting a person from a village and that everybody on the list has been killed to silence them. Singer is then assassinated by a helicopter-borne sniper, and the team makes their escape as Cooper closes in. With the help of Russian secret agent Ivan Simanov (Brian Cox), Frank and Sarah infiltrate the CIA headquarters to steal the file but Frank is injured in the process after fighting with Cooper. Joe, having escaped an attempt on his life, helps extract the team and joins them, and they all hide out in Victoria's (Helen Mirren) house for first aid. Victoria, who misses her old life as a wetwork agent, joins the team as well.

After reviewing the file, all the team can figure out is that the only man involved on the reporter's list but not in the file, Alexander Dunning (Richard Dreyfuss), has some way of protecting himself. The team arrives at Dunning's house, where he reveals under interrogation that the mission was to extract Vice-President Robert Stanton (Julian McMahon), who at the time was a young lieutenant who experienced a breakdown and massacred the occupants of the village. It becomes apparent that Stanton is trying to erase all the loose ends as he plans to run for president. At that moment, Cooper and the FBI surround Dunning's mansion. Cooper tries to negotiate Frank's surrender, but Frank tells Cooper about the vice-president's treachery, which shakes his faith. Joe sacrifices himself by taking Frank's place and pretending to give up. An unknown sniper kills Joe as he leaves the mansion, despite Cooper's order to hold fire. The confusion buys the team enough time to escape, but Sarah is captured. Frank calls Cooper and threatens his family if Sarah is harmed, and says that he intends to kill Stanton.

The team, along with Ivan (revealed to be Victoria's former lover), infiltrate Stanton's fundraising gala in Chicago and successfully kidnap him despite Cooper's best efforts to stop them. Frank calls Cooper and says he is willing to trade Stanton for Sarah. At the meeting point, Dunning arrives and reveals that he is the mastermind behind the assassinations and that Stanton was merely a pawn and scapegoat. Cooper's handler, Cynthia Wilkes (Rebecca Pidgeon), is also in on the plot. Disgusted with Dunning and Wilkes' greed and corruption and being used by her and Dunning, Cooper gives Frank the key to his handcuffs and shoots Wilkes while Marvin and Victoria kill Dunning's bodyguards, and Frank crushes Dunning's windpipe. Cooper agrees to let Frank and his team go. As they leave the scene, Frank and Sarah are eager to start a new life together. The final scene shows Frank and Marvin in Moldova, fleeing from Moldovan Army troops with a stolen nuclear device, in a wooden wheelbarrow with Marvin wearing a dress being pushed by Frank, as part of returning a favor to Ivan for his help.

Red (2010) is a very great movie. There are four reasons why the writer is interested in studying this film: first reason is because this movie is so good movie, the second reason is because this film is starred by Bruce Willis as Major Character, the third reason is because Red movie used many beautiful locations as the place settings, and the last reason is because the film is unique.

(7)

The first reason why the writer chooses this film is because this film is so good. This film tells about the comeback of Frank’s spirit when he finds the girl who works in Pension office, and they are started to make conversation by phone. And then, both of them admire each other.

The second reason is because this film stared by Bruce Willis. Bruce Willis is a man who dedicated so much for his responsibility. He is a man who is very gifted by the God to be a star movie. His acting is so nice. And also, he is so handsome. The third reason is because Red (2010) movie uses many locations in many country when take the picture for this movie. It shows many beautiful locations only in one movie. This film is taking on places like Clevelend Ohio, New York, the great city that have Liberty Statue, Kansas, New Orleans Lousiana, New York Chinatown, Pensacola Florida, Guatemala-San Benito, Alabama, Virginia, Chicago, and the last is Moldova. All of that have the unique things to be admired.

The fourth reason is this movie starring many actors and actress who are so dedicated in the each era and have perfection of character and characterization in. Beside Bruce Willis, this film also stared by Marie Louise Parker whom has received several nominations and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in 2006. Hellen Mirren who has won an Academy Award for Best Actress, four SAG Awards, four BAFTAs, three Golden Globes, four Emmy Awards, and two Cannes Film Festival Best Actress Awards and also Morgan Freeman which also a director besides an actor. Freeman has won so many awards, Such as; Oscar; Winning Best Supporting Actors in the Street Smart on 1987, Oscar winning best actor for his role as a chauffeur, in Driving Miss Daisyon 1989, seeded \ Oscar for best actor, in The Shawshank Redemption on 1994, Receive Crystal Globe award for artistic contribution to world cinema at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on 2003, Won Oscar Best Supporting Actor, in Million Dollar Baby on 2005, guest of honor Cairo International Film Festival in 2006), John Malkovich which is also multi talented. Besides as an actor, Malkovich is a director of many movie, writer of novel entitled Hideous Man (2002), and the producer of the movie version Brian Cox (An actor and rector). Furthermore, this film also starring by good actresses and actors who are so gifted such as: Karl Urban, Julian McMahon, Ernest Borgnine, Richard Dreyfuss, James Remar, and Rebecca Pidgeon.

Based on the phenomenon above, the writer analyzes it using existentialist approach, the title of the research is: SEARCH FOR EXISTENCE OF FRANK MOSES IN RED MOVIE DIRECTED BY ROBERT SCHWENTKE (2010): AN EXISTENTIALIST APPROACH.

II. UNDERLYING THEORY

A. Notion of Existentialism

The word existential is from Latin word existere, ex means exit and sitere means make independent. These concepts emphasize freedom and that life is choice. Existentialism has many notions, it depends on the existentialist’s view.

(8)

The main point of existentialism is “every human being is free” and “The existentialist emphasize that freedom is necessarily accompanied by responsibility”. Every existentialist has different opinion about existentialism. Thus there are many kinds of the notion of existentialism.

Existentialism firstly emerges in the golden period of German philosopher, namely Hegel (Sartre, 2002:3). The movement had its origins in the 19th century with the thought of Kiergaard and Nietzsche, and in the 1940s and 1950s, with the thought of French philosopher such as Jean Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, and Albert Camus.

Existentialism appeared in the early 19th century, Soren Kierkegaardas as the father of existentialism or the first philosopher maintained that the individual solely responsible for giving his or her own life meaning and for living that life passionately and sincerely, in spite of many existential obstacles and distraction including despair, angst, absurdity, alienation, and boredom. He has stressed the important of individual action in deciding questions about morality and truth.

According Sartre (2002: 40), there are two kinds of existentialists, namely “Theistic existentialist or Christian existentialists” and “atheistic existentialism”. Christian existentialists are Jasper and Gabriel Marcel, Heidegger, Albert Camus and Sartre are included in atheistic existentialist. Both of them believe that existentialism before essence but they have different opinion about existentialism.

Existentialism taught that truth and act involve the environmental and subjectivity of a man. Sartre (2002: 5) said also that the reality of existentialism in every human come from “depth” of each soul. It is arranged systematically by human thought, because the objectivity of knowledge is not always same with truth.

Existentialism is comprehended as philosophical movement that is giving emphasize on the individual existence, choice and freedom. Mc Garth (1997: 570) states that existentialism is not only seen a theory but also a movement based on reason of human thought over the circumstance society faced. Thus, existentialism could not be only seen from one side but it needs more exploration to get more understanding to comprehend the notion precisely. As a result, existentialism has a meaning as a movement that emphasizes on the subjectivity of individual existence.

From the notion of existentialism above, the writer can conclude that existentialism is a philosophical movement characterized by emphasis on individualism, individual freedom, life choice and subjectivity.

A. Sartre’s Major Points of Existentialism 1. Being

Being is one of ontology concept that is used by existentialists for explaining the existence of human being. Human being exists in contrast to inanimate things, to exists, man has to act, for describing human consciousness,

(9)

and placing it in its metaphysical context in the world, and he is necessarily concerned with human action. According Sartre (in Koeswara, 1987: 9) being is a measure of human existence, a dimension base on subjectivity. Sartre divides being into two parts, Being-for-itself and Being-in-itself. Being for-itself (etre-pour-soi) is consciousness of human which knows that it exists and is being in real world. The subject of being-for-its-self is human.

Another being-in-itself, it is non-conscious being. The things have no conscious sense, it cannot nor has freedom to choose, they are just exist and Being, but on the one hand human has a conscious for their existence.

2. Existence before Essence

Sartre (2002: 44) states that existence before essence is human being face with their self, they exists in the world and define their self. Human existence is different with the thing existence, through the term of “Exsistence before Essence”. Human has a relation to the existence, man is being by his conscious as his own self and as like that he cannot be exchanged, man is judged from what he does, which is the reflection from the decision of choices.

For Sartre, a man exists himself consciously. The existentialist stated that “man exists, in that existence, he defines himself and the world in his own subjectivity and wanders between choice, freedom and existentialism anxiety.

3. Consciousness (Cogito)

The third major principle of existentialism is the term of consciousness that is proposed by Sartre. He explained that cogito or consciousness is self consciousness, cogito is not self experience but human existence in non-thematic way. Sartre (in Dagun, 1990: 99) divides consciousness into two groups, namely thematic consciousness and non-thematic consciousness. Thematic consciousness is consciousness as if something, and non-thematic consciousness is consciousness as if he exists. Consciousness is closely related to action, since A man must have his consciousness, when human acts, “there is no such thing as bore consciousness unconnected with action

A man must have certain purpose to do something. When he decides something, he must predict its profit and its loss. Man always looks for his perfect condition; he never stops until he finds it. When he makes a decision for his life, his consciousness plays an important role.

4. Freedom to Choose

The fourth major element of existentialism is freedom to choose. Man is free and responsible. Human responsible on himself because human has freedom and opportunity to do, to choose good life or bad life and to become everything he wants. Making a decision is a form of human’s freedom. “Man is nothing else but his plan; he exists only to the extent that he fulfills himself; he is therefore nothing else than the ensemble of his act, nothing else than his life” (Hassan, 1985: 103).

(10)

5. Anxiety

The next major element of existentialism is anxiety. Sartre expressed that anxiety happens when human decides himself as what he wants to be, but what he decides to choose as choice will be hard responsible by him (Hassan, 1985: 105).

All choices will have a risk and also responsible, because of that the anxiety will be felt by him because of the hard responsibility and the risk. Human will always choose in the life problem. He will always present the kind of optional choice in this life. As following Sartre quotation.

He creates himself and responsible more over to himself. This phenomenon causes human to comprehend anxiety, because he should choose in front of him and also that does not just relate to him but also for human unity. No people can run from the disturb of thinking (anxiety) accept such kind of self observation (Sartre, 2002: 49). The point of this theory is “we are aware of who we are and fully responsible for our existence” and the people are anguish, if human claim that they are not anxious, than they are merely hiding their anxiety. Anxiety appears when the people have chosen choice in their life with responsibility and consequent.

6. Transcendence of Ego

Human cannot live in society individually, human needs the other people to help him in the universe. Human lives together with human else as the part of the society. That is important for human to show himself as the part of society.

Human has a big power of Ego to help each other in the society. As the part of society, human has Transcendence of Ego. Transcendence of Ego is such kind of tendencies for human to do more helpful for their society as a useful person or a hero, for the example the man has tendencies to help the woman who gets accident at the street. The Ego of him to help is more important than the ego in himself because it is good for himself to choose as a good man. As Sartre stated in Hassan “I am responsible for myself and for everyone else. I am creating a certain image of man of my own choosing. In choosing myself, I choose a man.” (Hassan, 1985: 104). Human existence will be good if he always chooses the choice which useful for himself and also for the other people in the society.

7. Nothingness

Every existence must be ended by death, it means that death is one of prevention of human freedom. Human life, absolutely they exist, they can do anything and other human else can receive their existence. But when the people die, they will be nothingness. Sartre proposed that death is absurd, it is because the death cannot be waited in reality, but the death just can be hopped and human just arrive it (Hassan, 1985: 108).

No people recognize their existence as well as they life. All people will be death, Sartre has another view that nothingness does not itself have being, yet it is supported by being. It comes into the world by the For-itself and is the recoil from fullness of self-contained being which allows consciousness to exist as such. (Sartre, 1958: 632). Man must know what he was, to realize what he can be. His past historic is an inevitable basic factor of his future.

(11)

Through Sartre’s conclusion seems to be that being kills before nothingness, since consciousness is probably based more on spontaneity than on stable seriousness, he contends that any person of serious nature is obligated to continuous struggle between:

a. the conscious desire of peaceful self fulfillment through physical actions.

b. Social roles as if living within a portrait that one actively paint of one self.

c. The more pure and raging spontaneity of nothing consciousness, of being instantaneously free to overturn one’s roles, pull up stakes, and strike out new paths.

III. ANALYSIS

After analyzing the structural elements of the movie the preceding analysis to complete the study is relating the entire element one by one putting back into unity. The movie Red (2010) adapted from DC comics written by Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer with the same entitled. Robert Schwentke is the director of the movie Red (2010). In this movie, Robert Schwentke tries to explore how Frank’s search for existence reflected in Robert Schwentke’s Red (2010) movie. The theme of Red (2010) movie is “someone can do anything to make their existence in this world can be useful and their mission comes true by their power”, reflected the major character (Frank) in this movie.

There are two major characters in this movie. The first major character is Frank Moses. Frank Moses in this movie is acted by Bruce Willis. He acts as a bored lonely, and retired from her job as a CIA agent. He is about 50 years old. He got old. He is from undescribed place. He lives alone and bored and the only joy of Frank Moses is makes a conversation by phone with Sarah Ross. He is handsome, hard to defeat, bald, and has a white skin and tall body.

From this movie, it can be seen how Frank searching his existence. For his life, he tries to get his existence in his life with searching for the people who always want to kill him. He does not know about the reason why the people themselves want to kill him, and why there is his name inside the list included the people who will be killed. There are some problems in his effort, but he tries to suffer in it.

The setting of place in this movie is using many locations like Cleveland Ohio, New York, the great city that have Liberty Statue, Kansas, New Orleans Louisiana, New York Chinatown, Pensacola Florida, Guatemala-San Benito, Alabama, Virginia, Chicago, and the last is Moldova. In the beginning of the movie, the setting of place is Frank’s house in a suburb. The setting of time in this movie is unspecified.

The structural elements of the movie also support the story of this movie. Robert Schwentke selected the best actor and actrees such as Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Marie Louise Parker, Brian Cox, Hellen Mirren, etc. This movie becomes a successful because it is supported by other technical elements such as mise-en-scene, cinematography, sound, and editing. Mise-en- Scene

(12)

involves lighting, costume and make up, set dressing and properties, camera angle and duration of shot. It makes this film so good.

The plot is divided into three also. It is the beginning, the middle, and the last one is the end. The beginning is about one quarter of the length in film production, the film maker explores the story by presenting the hero and heroic and other major participant. The middle contains the struggle of hero to achieve of the problems has been discovered or created in the beginning. In the end or the final scene shows Frank and Marvin in Moldova, fleeing from Moldovan Army troops with a stolen nuclear device, in a wooden wheelbarrow with Marvin wearing a dress being pushed by Frank, as part of returning a favor to Ivan for his help.

There are three point-of-views (POV) in this film. The first refers to a camera shot taken as if seen though the eyes of a character. Based on this kind Red (2010) movie use the point of view of first person, and third person because from the dialogue , the camera shot as eyes of character and other person outside from characters. Second, it refers to the perspective of the story teller. This movie uses first character as a narrator. Third, point of view refers to the interest, attitude and belief of group at particular perspective.

Red (2010) movie is edited by Matt Dezeel. Editing involves decisions about which shots to include, the most effective take of shots, the duration of shots, the arrangement of shots, and the transitions between them.

There are three morals value in this movie. The first moral value is please used our time in our live in good. The times never come back again, so the people should give a good attitude to everyone. The second value is we have to give a full respect to an old man who older. The last moral value is to defend our existence in our life. Work hard and struggle to defend existence and makes it sure that God has many reasons when he gifted life to our in this world. So, still on your existence, still struggle on your life, and be grateful for this very beautiful life.

Based on the explanation above, it can be seen that elements of Red (2010) movie such as the characters, plot, point of view and the visualization from mise-en-scene, cinematography, editing and other technical elements is a key to build the stories of the movie. All of this elements above are succesful to make a good quality for this movie and the structural elements of Red (2010) movie makes the effective on process manage this film.

IV. CONCLUSION

Based on the analysis in the previous chapter, the researcherwould like to draw some conclusion as follows:

Firstly based on the structural analysis, it is evident that in the movie, robert Schwentke wants to convey a moral message that “respected an old man, use the best for your time, do not ever wasting your time because the time is never back again”. It is doing the character of Frank Moses that succsess to get much impression for an action-drama-comedy movie; the continually plot from the beginning, the middle and the end; the point of view have been done in all ways and preciselly appropriate applied in the story in the most setting of place; then the visualitation from mise-en-scene, cinematography, editing and the other

(13)

technical elements have the unity and succesful relate to one another then finally formulated into good quality of a movie.

Secondly, based on existentialist analysis Red (2010) movie is the movie wich has the existentialist aspects that are built in the story character in this movie. Exixtentialism reflects individual context in expressing searh of existence through consciousness, cogito, freedom to choose, anxiety and transcendence of ego.

All of these aspects become part of existentialism philosophy. The existence of people starts with nothingness that human is in blank existence, he starts his existenece by being which has sigh by action of human, the second, existence of human can be shown by the existence before essence, it is processof becoming by human to define his self as well as his will. The third is based on consciousness, human can define his self in the process of becoming when he is aware about his self, his existence also his choice, consciousness should be exist in the human existence because it is becoming requirement the existence of human to exist is he has to have freedom to choose, no one influences his existence to choose. It is the process of becoming by people to define his self as he wants. The fifth is anxiety, it is the condition of the human that she choose one choice he feel uncomfortable about his life which does not free because many people wants to kill him. He scares about hislife, this condition is called anxiety condition of people. And the last is transcendence of ego phenomena people are out of his ego level, all of those are the aspect which occurs in the Red (2010) movie existentialist analysis.

Mise-en- Scene

involves lighting, costume and make up, set dressing and properties, camera angle and duration of shot.

It is doing the character of Frank Moses that succsess to get much impression for an action-drama-comedy movie; the continually plot from the beginning, the middle and the end; the point of view have been done in all ways and preciselly appropriate applied in the story in the most setting of place; then the visualitation from mise-en-scene, cinematography, editing and the other

technical elements have the unity and succesful relate to one another then finally formulated into good quality of a movie.
